Sorry Nick maybe it's just me but what is the point of your post? What coverage do you feel that other jocks deserve and are not getting ? And btw what record are they breaking that they deserve to put a damper on Lyle and his well deserved and hard earned record!!

The point i tried to make was not to discredit him. He is a brilliant jockey/academic and i hope he takes this record to a different level...I wanted to see if anyone could think out of the box to promote these young lads and give them greater exposure.

Lyle is a very bright guy, he is clever academically as well as streetwise, and his memory retention is brilliant. His talent as a supplier of winners to the trainers and owners is brought about through his impeccable work ethic and that it is consistent. That is why he gets the best rides, that is why the top trainers get horses under him, that is why he will be a huge success not only here but hopefully for him overseas. If there are other apprentices close to that out there then who are they??

Seems like a very level headed guy...much like Matthew de Kock.

A great achievement Well done When Gavin broke the record we all expected it the
stand for years. As Muis Roberts record had lasted
Now how long will it take for this to be broken?
The previous record holder was Adriaan de la Rey {Shorty} in the fifties
He rode 106 in what was his 1st full year as an apprentice
What would be interesting is the number of rides he had in all
Jhb had about 16 races per week ,maybe 800/900 per year
I wonder what his strike rate for 4 years was
Does anybody have access to the Jockey club calenders of the 1950s?
