Scottsville Tuesday Tips and Race Previews by Andrew Harrison
Race 1
9 PICKAWINNER 10 ROMAN DANCER 4 BUCKLEBERRY 7 FLYING GEORGE
Preview: PICKAWINNER (9) found consistent market support on debut but found one better in the more experienced JJ’s Captain. He has a big chance of making amends. ROMAN DANCER (10) was far behind Pickawinner when the two met He too should come on for the run. BUCKLEBERRY (4) impressed in his barrier trial. He will be tested here but should come on from that effort. FLYING GEORGE (7) has improved with each outing and has his first start for a new stable. He has an inexperienced apprentice up but can run into the money. (Andrew Harrison: 9-10-4-7).
Race 2
1 NEALA 4 WINTER BLUES 3 VALEDICTORIAN 2 SWAKOPMUND
Preview: NEALA (1) put in an impressive barrier trial and although she shoulders top weight against males she looks more than capable. WINTER BLUES (4) got going late when racing in feature company last time out. He has smart sprint form and looks a likely threat to the selection. VALEDICTORIAN (3) is lightly raced. He showed some promise in two starts in the Cape and trialled well. He will be tested here. SWAKOPMUND (2) is quick and goes well over course and distance. With a 4kg claimer up he should be competitive. (Andrew Harrison: 1-4-3-2).
Race 3
4 CHARGE D’AFFAIRES 1 TO WOO 2 BOUNDLESS DEEP 3 BRONNIE
Preview: CHARGE D’AFFAIRES (4) was a beaten favourite in both starts but they looked to be competitive maidens. She can make amends here. TO WOO (1) is the only winner in the race and also the most experienced. She has a 4kg claimer up again and should be right there. BOUNDLESS DEEP (2) found some market support in a promising debut against older fillies. She must have a chance on that showing. BRONNIE (3) was not too far back on debut after a useful trial and should improve with the experience. (Andrew Harrison: 4-1-2-3).
Race 4
2 BEAT IT 5 MITRA MUSIC 4 MISS CALYPSO 7 BY THE WAY
Preview: BEAT IT (2) ran way below ability in the Allan Robertson and it’s best to put a line through that run. She will much prefer this trip. MITRA MUSIC (5) won well on debut and tries the turf for the first time. She has drawn well and can go in again. MISS CALYPSO (4) also finished down the field in the Allan Robertson but has smart form before that. She has a 4kg claimer up from an inside draw and should show big improvement. BY THE WAY (7) was not too far back in her sprint debut and can do better over this trip. (Andrew Harrison: 2-5-4-7).
Race 5
11 MAMBO LYRIC 1 SUCH A RUSH 3 PINA COLADA 4 ASIANA
Preview: MAMBO LYRIC (11) raced green in a promising debut. She takes on older runners here but has improvement to come. There should be very little between SUCH A RUSH (1), PINA COLADA (3) and ASIANA (4). Such A Rush has the best draw and that could be all that separates the three. (Andrew Harrison: 11-1-3-4).
Race 6
1 DOT COZA 3 TARANAKI 2 FIRE SONG 5 YOUNG GUN
Preview: DOT COZA (1) is rated far superior to the balance of this field and rates the one to beat although she has a wide draw to contend with. TARANAKI (3) has been a touch disappointing but is at least consistent. His best race has been on the turf and he will be a threat. FIRE SONG (2) looks held on current form but does have a stronger rider aboard this time around. YOUNG GUN (5) shows steady form and can finish in the money. (Andrew Harrison: 1-3-2-5).
Race 7
5 MOON BIRD 8 THE POET 3 TOMMY GRAND 1 BURRA BOY
Preview: Wide open. MOON BIRD (5) is lightly raced and was a beaten favourite last run on the poly. He can do better back on turf. The blinkers come off. THE POET (
was possibly unlucky in a slow-run race and has shown improved form in blinkers. He has a wide draw but is due a change of fortune. TOMMY GRAND (3) caught the eye in his barrier trial. He may need this outing over a trip possibly short of his best but he can feature in this field. BURRA BOY (1) was given a clever ride when runner-up last time out. He is always dangerous and can go one better. (Andrew Harrison: 5-8-3-1).
Race 8
1 FLEEK 8 SPIFFY 13 NIKIYA 12 LA VALLETTE
Preview: FLEEK (1) has her third run back from a break. She has been close-up in both starts and should be right there again. SPIFFY (
made a smart debut finishing a length ahead of Fleek. If she builds on that run she can go one better. NIKIYA (13) raced green in a promising debut. She may need further but should improve on her first outing. LA VALETTE (12) trialled well and does not meet a strong field. (Andrew Harrison: 1-8-13-12).
