The difference is that they were all better equipped to become good jockeys than most of the kids that now arrive having never seen a horse close up except in a cart
Lester Piggott had a jockey father and a mother who was a sister to 2 top riders
The exception to this of course was Muis Roberts
There are others who have been good but not that many
Remember Morne Du Plessis father captained the Boks
Look at the Sharks side and the the Stormers as well

You are correct Forgot about Gavin a top rider
The original Lerena (Bob} came from Argentinia I believe before WW2
He had Alan Higgins as an apprentice and I am told others ,Was known
as a hard tough man but top horseman
I think he would be the great grandfather

Watch out for Jeff Lloyds 2 boys.
Ask Dave Scott about the glint in his eye when he spoke about his 2 sons and how competitive they are with him, when he spoke about them at the evening that was held for him at Sibaya just before the July.
It was interesting to hear that his greatest concern and worry when they riding together trackwork , is them getting injured so much to the point that he is a nervous wreck almost.

Heard that the LLoyd boy who was in his 1st year at the Academy left
for Australia with Jeff
A bit sad as I would have liked to have seen him in action
