Race 3 - Temple Grafin 11/2, Arianos Shadow 5/1

Very tricky race but I like these two. I can confess I missed the early 14/1 on Temple Grafin 'cause I didn't think she'd be backed in like that but it is what it is. Thought she put up a nice front running display on July day from a very wide gate. Again, a wide gate but this is a weaker field and more her trip at this stage. Kotzen does rate her and Richard's back up. Should have a fair chance.

Just watched Arianos shadow's last win which I thought was impressive. Didn't beat much but must have come on from that and 1200 shouldn't be a problem. Good draw is vital here.


Race 4 - Cue the Music

Haven't actually backed him yet cause I feel the price is a bit too short but he might drift closer to the off. He was never going to the lead in the 1400 on July day and keep on rolling over horses like Soqrat and Barahin but he was in the lead for someway out until the tank emptied. He's a sprinter no question and a good one. He should make amends today from a good draw.

Race 5 - Can You Feel It 8/1, Believe the Best 22/1

Really fancy Can you Feel it here. I thought it was a cracking effort behind Celtic Sea - I can't remember too well but as they turned for home, I think she was either with Celtic Sea or behind her(almost last turning for home) and she showed excellent acceleration to get up for third. On that, I see her loving the extra 200m if she's ridden similarly. I thought 8/1 was well worth the strike here.

Believe the best was a bit disappointing in that same race but was never really in the race. Stable does rate her highly and today from draw 1, she could show that she is in infact related to the 2 time Grade 1 winner(hopefully 3 time later) Eyes Wide Open.

Race 6 - Alyaasaat 10/1

Not much to say here. Soqrat is a good horse, I was on his stable companion on July day and he just ran out of ground so ideally the extra 200m will be what he needs to win it but I don't back horses at 8/10 so I'll have a little flutter on his stable companion who was very impressive in his maiden victory on the Highveld.

Gold Cup - Strathdon 5/1, One Direction 10/1 and Ballymaine 50/1

Had a good run lately in this race picking Enaad and HM last year so hopefully continues. IMT and MTC are the class packages but the hard races on July day could have maybe taken a lot out of them. I'm quite sure MTC's mission was the July so this almost seems like an afterthought.

Both Strathdon and One D have been aimed at this and Strathdon has a nice little weight turnaround with MTC on their last meeting. Fourie in the saddle, who will suit him more GvN I feel, is on a horse that can stay all day and has the class to win a Gold Cup. One D as well is a horse that always flatters to deceive but with 52.5kg on his back, he really won't get a better chance to win a big one like this.

Ballymaine's a stayer I've always took a liking too so at 50/1 earlier in the week - why not :lol:


Race 9 - Eyes Wide Open 7/1, Captain America 8/1

Loved EWO's comeback run. Carried a massive weight for his comeback run and really made up some nice ground late on to run sixth. Proven class, 2 time grade 1 winner - won the Premier's Champion Stakes as a 2yo here, won the Derby over the July winner, Do it Again. Should go close if fit enough. CA, the old soldier, always a big race candidate and will be much much fitter now with that run under his belt, loves Greyville nowadays and will try to gallop them off their feet.

Race 10 - Meryl 10/1

All over Meryl at that price. Loved her run in the Oaks where she was very unlucky - drawn in the carpark - was way out of the ground turning for home and made up a ton of ground but alas, Witchcraft had the race run to her liking and they never saw which way she went. Meryl gets a good draw and ran a cracking race here as a 2yo. Like her chances.

I will grant that maybe Vi Va Pi Pa did not stay, but watching Khumalo during the race, I've never seen him look comfortable when there is no false rail, I could be wrong, ten more rides to go, let's see how many winners he has by the end of the meeting.
