I really can't understand why this top division handicap is called the peoples race. The day has been a damp squib for many years, a day out in little Nigeria with the en-suite rubbish dump clearly does not appeal to most.

I always liked this race, as an armchair fan?

In fact it’s probably in my top 5 race days

Cometh the hour, cometh the man, they say. Well the hour has come. And so has Dhrupal Amin.
August 22, 2018

Thanks to his courage, fearlessness and, of course, bulging wallet, Gauteng’s favourite horse race, the Summer Cup, has a new headline sponsor in G-BETS.

“The Summer Cup is everything you want in a race,” Amin, MD of online gaming for the Gold Rush Group, said yesterday at the launch of one of the country’s most prestigious race days.

“While the race is steeped in history, it brings out the fun-loving, adventurous spirit that the wonderful people of this country seem to have in abundance.”

Talking to Amin, it very quickly becomes clear why G-BETS leapt at the opportunity to append its label to the Summer Cup.

“We are a young and exciting brand,” said Amin, “and the Summer Cup resonates with everything we stand for.

“It’s a day of excitement and fun from a racing and entertainment perspective.”

It is the first time that G-BETS has stepped into the racing arena as a sponsor. And they are taking the step fearlessly.

“If one avoids fear, you will never do anything. We cannot let the fear of the unknown hold us back,” said Amin.

Exploring new territory seems to be one of Amin’s strengths.

This “thoroughbred South African”, as he calls himself, hails from Brits.

After studying at Wits and qualifying as a CA, he made a jump to the left and swapped bookkeeping for bookmaking, so to speak, starting off his gaming career at Tsogo Sun before reaching for gold at the Gold Rush Group.

Rob Scott, Tellytrack CEO and Sales & Marketing Executive for Phumelela, yesterday invited all Gautengers to the G-BETS Gauteng Summer Cup, which will take place at Turffontein on 1 December 2018.

“Gauteng is people’s country,” Scott said at the official launch yesterday.

“And the G-BETS Gauteng Summer Cup is one of the few People’s Races where there is no age restriction. So the day really belongs to all, big and small.”

Taken from the GBets rules:

All Tote Bets are subject to the following limits:

In the event that the pool is less than the payout limits displayed above, the pool dividend will be used for payout purposes. Should the pool exceed the payout limits in the table above then the amounts in this table will be used as the dividened for payouts and / or percentage payouts, not exceeding R100,000-00 for Tote ets and R100,000-00 for Exotic Bets. All Tote Bets are subject to the following limits

So what we have here is a competitor to the tote, that instrument that funds racing, and who is being allowed to sponsor Gautengs "premier" race. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. This reminds me of a woman who finds mens attractiveness more appealing as the mans bank balance increases. Unadultered whoremongering.

.....the problem here is that through pure relationship and a form of cannibalism.....the Phum marketing people relied on getting Steinhoff to sponsor the Summer Cup and it was turned into a day out for those connected to Hi Fi Corp(Sansui) .....all of the other uncle in the furniture business associated companies and very little of their customers....other than that they have lost the touch to bring sponsors other than bookie sites and other forms gaming.....can you see any way these okes from racing are able to woo new sponsors to put up promotions like that of the OK back in the day.....I say no way....they have no clue....

.......took the liberty of copying my post off another thread....posted before the announcement of the new sponsor G-Bets.....talk about true to form....I just wish that horse racing form was this predictable.....
