If not for the car park draw would have been bullish about LAKESHORE EAGLE to beat home Perfect Match.

Still, @ 9/2 gotta have a bet.

Good man Van Niekerk.
He loves beating Purton in the last race of the day.

Preview and form for Happy Valley

29 January 2019

by Andrew Hawkins - hkjc.com

HAPPY VALLEY SELECTIONS
(Wednesday January 30, 2019)

RACE 1: #7 Regency Honey, #6 Raichu, #9 Sunny Orient, #1 The Show

RACE 2: #6 Exceptional Desire, #4 General Iron, #1 Jolly Bountiful, #8 Chaparral Star

RACE 3: #8 Winwin Ruby, #3 Multigogo, #4 Charity Wings, #1 All You Know

RACE 4: #9 Love Chunghwa, #11 Gouten Of Garo, #1 Super Lucky, #7 Iron Bravo

RACE 5: #3 Smart Leader, #6 Right Honourable, #12 Starlit Knight, #8 Penang Hall

RACE 6: #3 Red Warrior, #5 Circuit Glory, #7 Winning Faith, #2 Packing Dragon

RACE 7: #11 Gentle Breeze, #6 Most Beautiful, #1 Moment Of Power, #9 Team Spirit

RACE 8: #1 Super Turbo, #3 Country Star, #7 Super Hoppy, #12 Seven Heavens

RACE 1: MURRAY HANDICAP

#7 Regency Honey should be able to lead here. He should be in front turning for home, it’s just a matter of whether he’ll be able to hold the late challengers at bay.
#6 Raichu should enjoy a nice run midfield off a solid speed. He can get home well if the splits open up at the right time.
#9 Sunny Orient is his own worst enemy but his last effort showed that he has a win in him soon. He’s worth watching here at his second start for Benno Yung.
#1 The Show is racing well enough to get into the finish.

RACE 2: LAMBETH HANDICAP

#6 Exceptional Desire showed a return to form last time out, finishing fourth over this course and distance behind Super Lucky. He should enjoy a nice run again here and he can take victory with even luck.
#4 General Iron returns to the 1200m here. He’s looking as though he’d appreciate stepping up in trip again and so he deserves respect in here.
#1 Jolly Bountiful is racing fairly consistently. He did well to get within a nose last time out and a similar effort will see him go close.
#8 Chaparral Star is interesting dropping in trip. He will be finding the line late.

RACE 3: EDINBURGH HANDICAP

#8 Winwin Ruby showed last time out that he might be able to return to form soon enough. Coming back to Happy Valley might be a shrewd move too and he maps well. He’s a big player.
#3 Multigogo may get out to lead and he’s always dangerous when he can adopt that role. He can’t be overlooked.
#4 Charity Wings is racing well enough and the claim of Victor Wong ensures that he gets in with a nice weight. He’s a player.
#1 All You Know is next best.

RACE 4: LAMBETH HANDICAP

#9 Love Chunghwa has not won in over a year, but he’s at a mark where he should be able to win at any time. He’s been racing consistently of late and only needs even luck to be able to break through.
#11 Gouten Of Garo still remains winless from 15 starts. He has a short sprint so needs to be produced at the right time but he’s not without claims in this event.
#1 Super Lucky won very easily at his first start for Caspar Fownes last time out. He’s drawn awkwardly, so will likely go back to last, but he’s capable of flying home over the top.
#7 Iron Bravo steps out for the first time. Trainer Chris So has a good record with debutants and he must be included in all exotics.

RACE 5: CONNAUGHT HANDICAP

#3 Smart Leader steps up to the extended mile for the first time in Hong Kong. He has looked like this trip would suit for quite some time. He deserves plenty of respect in here.
#6 Right Honourable flew home to just fall short by a head last time out. This rating will always make it tough for him, but he does have a terrific turn of foot on his day and he must be considered.
#12 Starlit Knight will likely find himself on the speed and he should be somewhere around the finish.
#8 Penang Hall can add value to the exotics.

RACE 6: THE HONG KONG CLUB CHALLENGE CUP

#3 Red Warrior has placed at his last three starts, having been sent out as favourite each time. Hopefully, the market turns on him here, but it’s unlikely as he does look logical in here. He may still even be a BMW Hong Kong Derby smokey if he can run well here.
#5 Circuit Glory has been running well this term and finally looks to have figured out his racing manners. This allows Tony Cruz to step him up to 1800m again, where he should prove a leading player.
#7 Winning Faith is honest and can’t be dismissed here.
#2 Packing Dragon is probably not the same horse he once was but these types of races are where he shines.

RACE 7: CLUB STREET HANDICAP

#11 Gentle Breeze returns to 1000m, having once again shown that 1200m is perhaps a bridge too far at this stage of his career. He should enjoy a nice run just behind the speed and he can score another victory in here with even luck.
#6 Most Beautiful is having a good season. He is likely to be around the mark yet again.
#1 Moment Of Power returns to Class 3 for the first time this season. He should get out on the speed and he might be able to stay on in this company.
#9 Team Spirit steps out over this course and distance for the first time. He looks the type who should be suited and he must be included.

RACE 8: CHATER HANDICAP

#1 Super Turbo will be winding up late, but there is plenty of speed here and if it melts down, he will be flying home strongly. He has plenty of weight, but he’s a capable horse on his day.
#3 Country Star faces a tough ask as a three-year-old approaching the top of Class 2. Regency Legend proved it can be done with his Sha Tin win on Sunday and Country Star is drawn to have every chance, but it might be worth trying to find one to beat him. That said, he’s the one to beat.
#7 Super Hoppy ran well fresh last time out. A similar effort will see him going close.
#12 Seven Heavens returns to Class 2, but he has run well down in grade at his last two starts and he is not without a hope.

VB = 4*
BEST LS = 7***

SWINGS.TRF
4.7.1.12.5.2

The VB should get the run of the race and run a cracking race. The BEST LS should be coming home well, late on.

RACE 4:
4.1.9.11.8.3

VB = 4***

SWINGS:
4.9.1.11

Taking a chance.Making an unraced horse the VB in the race....so hoping for the best.

SWINGS.TRF

LS = 9*

SWINGS.TRF
ROV 3/1.9.7.4.12.8

The TB is a smashing horse and should run a cracker. But both the VB and LS will come home late...should be a cracking race to end the day.

BONUS PA:
1/4.7.1.12.5.2/4.9.1.11.8/12.6.1.3.4/3.4/9.6.10.1.4.7/3

SUMMARY:
To say its a difficult card today...mmmm,i mean every HAPPY VALLEY card is difficult, right!!! Im expecting the VBs and LS to do well again. But unlike last week im not so certain we will get a LS winner today...EVEN the BEST LS is only a backup. my initial BEST LS has been backed into short odds so i made him a VB. So the BEST LS of today is a reserve, but i had to nail my colours down somewhere. Overally i think the LS today has more Small place chances...so we will need lots of luck. 1st time in ages i found 2 strong PA Bankers...but do keep in mind the PA and TRF are only extras.Since my original POTD was scratched ive had 4 different POTDs....ai. hoping we get lucky with the 1 i went with.

You can't be happy with your TB Heinrich.
Slow away from draw 2 and caught on heels coming round the turn.
You need plenty luck when you more than 2 back on the inside at this course.
And I thought Moreira would know that.

Preview and form for Happy Valley

12 February 2019

by Andrew Hawkins - hkjc.com

HAPPY VALLEY SELECTIONS
(Wednesday February 13, 2019)

RACE 1: #7 Frustrated, #1 E Master, #9 Super Fun, #2 Look Eras

RACE 2: #9 Cash Courier, #6 Lucky Storm, #2 Rookie Star, #5 Triumphal Win

RACE 3: #7 Dollar Reward, #10 Gracious Ryder, #1 All Best Friends, #3 Very Rich Man

RACE 4: #7 Happy Warrior, #10 Great Joy, #8 Little Island, #1 Acclaimed Light

RACE 5: #3 Happy Dragon, #2 Harmony Hero, #9 Cheerful Boy, #12 You Have My Word

RACE 6: #2 Wishful Thinker, #6 Super Hoppy, #1 Born In China, #5 Super Turbo

RACE 7: #3 Rise High, #1 Citron Spirit, #2 Insayshable, #7 Litterateur

RACE 8: #4 Nicconi Express, #3 Good Omen, #2 Epic, #8 Rickfield

RACE 9: #3 Music Addition, #5 Tornado Twist, #2 Starlight, #6 Water Diviner

RACE 1: TSUI MAN HANDICAP

#7 Frustrated is on debut here. The eye-catching black gelding, from the family of top Australian filly Sunlight, has trialled well both in Australia and here in Hong Kong and, even with gate 11, he can impress at start one.
#1 E Master has been racing consistently this season. He returns after a couple of months on the sidelines and he looks primed for a big performance here, even stepping back to the 1000m.
#9 Super Fun creates interest dropping back in trip. He’s having his first run for Dennis Yip and he can show up without surprising.
#2 Look Eras will be out on the speed. He can stick around for some minor money.

RACE 2: YUK SAU HANDICAP

#9 Cash Courier won on the final day of last season to finally gain a second Hong Kong victory. He has only raced once this season, sticking on fairly to finish sixth first-up over 1400m. The Happy Valley 1650m is far more suitable and he can improve significantly second-up.
#6 Lucky Storm will likely be out on the speed. He struggles to finish his races off but, if Dylan Mo can rate him appropriately, he might be able to hold them all off.
#2 Rookie Star is racing well and can finish around the mark yet again.
#5 Triumphal Win gets Zac Purton aboard for the first time. His last three course and distance runs have been good enough, but gate 11 makes it a tough ask.

RACE 3: VILLAGE HANDICAP

#7 Dollar Reward remains a Hong Kong maiden through 24 starts. He almost gained that elusive breakthrough last time out, finishing second by a nose to Navas, and it won’t take much for him to be able to score in this spot.
#10 Gracious Ryder is another coming off a narrow second last time out. He’s a course and distance winner and he should enjoy every chance from gate three.
#1 All Best Friends drops back to Class 4, a grade where he is unbeaten from one start. He has to be respected in this spot.
#3 Very Rich Man returned to form last time out and can run another bold race.

RACE 4: YIK YAM HANDICAP

#7 Happy Warrior has looked a likely winner in recent starts but things haven’t quite gone his way. He needs just a hint of luck to be able to get into the finish.
#10 Great Joy remains one of the unluckiest horses in training in Hong Kong. Hopefully, Matthew Poon can have him midfield before producing him at the right time to get into the finish.
#8 Little Island should have ever chance in here and he remains a contender.
#1 Acclaimed Light drops to Class 4 and he can’t be overlooked.

RACE 5: SING WOO HANDICAP

#3 Happy Dragon won nicely two starts back, pulling away for a three-length triumph, before he ended up too far out of his ground last start. Zac Purton should be able to lay up closer from gate five and that gives him a chance to score another victory.
#2 Harmony Hero has been nothing short of disappointing this season and has gone from serious classic contender to also-ran in four short runs. Perhaps Happy Valley, along with the blinkers being applied once more, can spark him up.
#9 Cheerful Boy is one of only two sons of Road To Rock in Hong Kong – the other is Beauty Generation. He has never won here at Happy Valley but he’s always dangerous when allowed a loose lead. That could easily happen here.
#12 You Have My Word is up in grade but he has no weight and he could finish in the placings.

RACE 6: THE HAPPY VALLEY TROPHY

#2 Wishful Thinker has one of the fastest final sectionals of any horse in Hong Kong. He was far from disgraced in a small field in the G3 Bauhinia Sprint Trophy over the straight 1000m when he didn’t have a clear run for much of the final 300m. Back to the 1200m in a race full of speed, he can finish over the top.
#6 Super Hoppy steps up in class but also gets a nice weight break. He looms as a contender.
#1 Born In China must shoulder 133 pounds, but all four of his Hong Kong wins have come at this course and distance and he deserves respect.
#5 Super Turbo needs luck but he’s not without a hope.

RACE 7: SHAN KWONG HANDICAP

#3 Rise High went ahead in leaps and bounds towards the end of last season, but he didn’t seem the same horse in two early-season efforts. He has spent some time at Conghua and he has looked revitalised for the experience. If he can return anywhere near his peak, he’s the one to beat.
#1 Citron Spirit ran a bold race behind Simply Brilliant in the G3 January Cup over the 1800m here at Happy Valley last month. He’s back up in the weights again but there’s no reason he can’t figure.
#2 Insayshable was third in the January Cup. He has a slightly awkward draw but he’s in the mix.
#7 Litterateur has seemingly put his quirky days behind him. He’s an interesting contender in here.

RACE 8: KING KWONG HANDICAP

#4 Nicconi Express simply found 1800m a bridge too far last time out. He should get a soft run from gate one coming back in trip and he can atone here.
#3 Good Omen is racing well this season and he deserves respect once again back out to this trip.
#2 Epic ran a nice race at his Hong Kong debut for fifth to Good Standing. He might become a late Hong Kong Derby contender with a good run here, but it will be a test for him with plenty of weight to carry and gate 12 to overcome.
#8 Rickfield might just get the setup he needs to prove a factor here.

RACE 9: BLUE POOL HANDICAP

#3 Music Addition arrived in Hong Kong with big wraps, particularly from his former trainer Peter Robl, and he lived up to the hype with a runaway victory last time out. This is tougher and he has to carry more weight, but he should be somewhere near the lead from the inside barrier and he shapes as the one to beat.
Without question, the main danger is #5 Tornado Twist. He’s been a typical John Size project in that he has improved with every start. Size has found a good race for him to continue his progression and he will be finishing strongly.
#2 Starlight is suited in these extended-band handicaps. He’ll be somewhere around the mark.
#6 Water Diviner returns after almost a year on the sidelines. He has looked good in his trials and he deserves respect.

Happy Wednesday 13 Feb
Race 3
Junzi is 15/1 and last won from pole draw at HV as a 15/1 shot. Should rip this field from the same draw with Alberto Sanna on reins again. My best bet.
Good Luck.

Preview and form for Sha Tin

15 February 2019

by Andrew Hawkins - hkjc.com

SHA TIN SELECTIONS
(Sunday February 17, 2019)

RACE 1: #8 Happy Rocky, #7 Garlic Yeah, #3 Clement Legend, #10 Le Panache

RACE 2: #5 King's Trooper, #12 Happy Cooperation, #7 Takingufurther, #13 Bullish Brother

RACE 3: #8 Enjoy Life, #3 Sam's Love, #4 High Rev, #11 Vital Spring

RACE 4: #11 Aerohappiness, #12 Master Albert, #5 Hard Promise, #1 Key Witness

RACE 5: #3 Waikuku, #1 Good Standing #4 Star Shine, #8 King Opie

RACE 6: #1 Beauty Generation, #2 Beat The Clock, #10 Rattan, #5 Conte

RACE 7: #1 Exultant, #4 Glorious Forever, #2 Pakistan Star, #10 Simply Brilliant

RACE 8: #14 Happy Force, #5 Noble Steed, #4 Comfort Life, #11 Mighty Maverick

RACE 9: #3 Red Warrior, #1 Dark Dream, #2 Furore, #10 Ho Ho Khan

RACE 10: #3 Ka Ying Legend, #6 Racing Fighter, #9 Alcari, #10 Picken

RACE 1: CITI PRIORITY HANDICAP

#8 Happy Rocky hasn’t won in a year, but he has been racing consistently of late. The outside gate is generally a negative over the 2000m, but he’ll be getting back in the field anyway and, under Zac Purton, he can come home over the top.
#7 Garlic Yeah was just edged out by Clement Legend last time out. He meets Clement Legend three pounds better for a head defeat, so he is capable of turning the tables.
That said, #3 Clement Legend has won his last four on end and, while it is so rare for horses to win five on end in handicaps in Hong Kong, he can’t be completely discarded.
#10 Le Panache is next best.

RACE 2: CITIGOLD HANDICAP

#5 King’s Trooper was meant to debut last month, but he sat down in the gates and became cast, leading to his withdrawal. He has trialled well since and the extra three weeks might actually prove a positive. He’s worth a chance here.
#12 Happy Cooperation finished second at Happy Valley last time out. If he can get across to a position near the speed, he can stick on well.
#7 Takingufurther looks the type who can progress rapidly. Expect a bold performance on debut.
#13 Bullish Brother ran well last time out and he is drawn to take advantage.

RACE 3: CITIGOLD PRIVATE CLIENT HANDICAP

#8 Enjoy Life didn’t show much last time out, but he got a long way out of his ground in a race dominated on the speed by Care Free Prince. If he gets a race run more to his liking, he’s capable of a far better showing here.
#3 Sam's Love was the only horse to make significant ground in that Care Free Prince race. He should be flying home again and he’s the one to beat.
#4 High Rev has run well in two of his three starts to date. He has to overcome a wide draw, but he can perform strongly in this spot.
#11 Vital Spring can return to form here with even luck.

RACE 4: CITI ULTIMA CARD HANDICAP

#11 Aerohappiness has all the talent in the world, but he’s still doing a few little things wrong that are halting his progression. Second-up, he should be primed to get into the finish here.
#12 Master Albert doesn’t win out of turn. Gate 14 should require him to be ridden quietly – not a negative for him – and if Derek Leung can remain patient aboard him, he’s capable of flying home.
#5 Hard Promise is racing well and he can finish around the mark again.
#1 Key Witness dead-heated with Prance Dragon at the Chinese New Year Raceday. The old boy can finish around the mark again.

RACE 5: CITI WEALTH MANAGEMENT SERVICES HANDICAP

#3 Waikuku has emerged as a Hong Kong Derby contender with his last two wins over 1400m. He’s racing over 1400m once again, following a similar path to his stablemate and last year’s Derby winner Ping Hai Star. Still, he looks to have plenty of ratings points in hand and he can win again on his road to bigger and better races.
#1 Good Standing, also owned by the Siu family, finally broke through for the first time in Hong Kong last time out. He returns to 1400m, but now that the monkey is off his back, perhaps he can go on with it.
#4 Star Shine has only had one rider throughout his Hong Kong career, but with that jockey – Douglas Whyte – now retired, Vincent Ho takes over here. Second-up, he can get into the finish.
#8 King Opie is a player once more.

RACE 6: G1 QUEEN'S SILVER JUBILEE CUP

#1 Beauty Generation won this race last year, getting the better of Beat The Clock by a head. He’s clearly gone to another level this season, winning his last three races – the G2 Jockey Club Mile, the G1 Hong Kong Mile and the G1 Stewards’ Cup – by three lengths on each occasion. He returns to 1400m, but it is difficult to see him being beaten.
#2 Beat The Clock finally scored a first G1 win last time out in the Centenary Sprint Cup. He’s honest and the rematch with Beauty Generation from last year is a tantalising prospect.
#10 Rattan is unsuited at the weights, but he’s made a name for himself as a fresh 1400m performer. He can get into the placings with even luck.
#5 Conte is the new kid on the block, to an extent. Ryan Moore takes his first ride on the five-year-old and he’s likely to be around the mark.

RACE 7: G1 CITI HONG KONG GOLD CUP

#1 Exultant may have been suited by a pace meltdown last time out, but he still had to carry plenty of weight to sweep to victory in the G3 Centenary Vase over the 1800m. That followed his win in the G1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) in December and he can take another step forward with a win here.
#4 Glorious Forever was unsuited last time out and that effort should be forgiven. If he can get out on the speed without too much pressure from Time Warp, just like what happened in the G1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) two back, he’s capable of redeeming himself.
#2 Pakistan Star gets Tommy Berry aboard for just the second time. He took the G1 Champions & Chater Cup (2400m) with Berry in the saddle last May and maybe it could prove a masterstroke by Kerm Din and Tony Cruz.
#10 Simply Brilliant is still on an upward spiral and can’t be completely dismissed.

RACE 8: CITI INSURANCE SERVICES HANDICAP

#14 Happy Force has drawn wide in his last four starts at the course and distance, winning twice and finishing third and fourth on the other two occasions. He now gets the inside gate and, if Keith Yeung can bounce him out quickly, he should lead here with ease. In that role, he can prove tough to run down.
#5 Noble Steed has to overcome a wide draw but he’ll be running on late, as has become his schtick.
#4 Comfort Life has been mixing his form of late. Hugh Bowman may prove a positive booking and he can stick on well if the Australian rider can get him into the right position.
#11 Mighty Maverick is another drawn awkwardly, but he’s a place hope.

RACE 9: HONG KONG CLASSIC CUP

#3 Red Warrior is a fascinating contender here, making his Sha Tin debut at his eighth Hong Kong start. The former English galloper never wins by much, but he’s extremely honest and he has been brought along steadily by trainer John Size. Circuit Glory and Litterateur franked his form at Happy Valley on Wednesday night and, as a left-field player, he’s worth a play in here. #1 Dark Dream caught the eye flying home for fourth in the Hong Kong Classic Mile, stamping himself as the nominal favourite for the Hong Kong Derby. He can continue his progression towards that race with a big run here.
#2 Furore scored a first Hong Kong win in the Hong Kong Classic Mile. He has to overcome a wide gate, but he should only relish the extra 200m.
#10 Ho Ho Khan has won his last three starts over this course and distance. He can’t be dismissed.

RACE 10: CITI MORTGAGE SERVICES HANDICAP

#3 Ka Ying Legend gets blinkers for the first time here. He brings some of the best form in this race with decent efforts behind promising horses Styling City, Regency Legend, Waikuku and Music Addition – all subsequent winners – and he deserves plenty of respect with Hugh Bowman jumping aboard again.
#6 Racing Fighter is drawn wide in gate 12, but he’s racing so well that he can’t be ignored in here. He’s the main danger.
#9 Alcari needs things to go his way off his current rating, but he’s drawn to take advantage and he must be included.
#10 Picken has won three of his last four starts. He’s likely to have plenty of admirers again and, while he’s a chance, he’s likely to be under the odds.
