This meeting was put together at very late notice, so many horses would not come into the race off their normal prep. It may be trickier than it looks.
Race 1. A very weak field, and hence I would respect the first timer African Java. Landela only had 4 runs in Jhb before being kicked out, and while I would not be surprised if it won, I can't have it at a short price. I'm going wide in the bipot first leg.
Race 2. Adalberto has been very consistent and should win this.
Race 3. Another very weak maiden- any of 1,2,5,6,7,8
Race 4. A very competitive fillies handicap and many with chances. I have Bikini Model running- the 1900m was too far for her last time, and she was finishing well over the 1300m the time before when the meeting was switched to poly. I'm expecting a good run today and at 16/1 is a good ew value bet.
Race 5. What a Player was thrown in at the weights last time when an easy winner, but he is certainly no sure thing back in a handicap. Border Control did not show the improvement expected at his second PE start but he could make amends here. Humble Addict is not the most consistent, but he cracks a nice draw and his two PE starts were decent efforts and his looks well in at the weights.
Race 6. Hartleythree won well last time and is on the up, but I think the 81 was a bit harsh for what she beat. The older fillies Game Girl, Firstimesacharm and Cowgirlinthesand are all dangers. Vertical is one of the better 3 year olds in PE, but has to overcome a wide draw today.
Race 7. Shepard's Delight impressed on debut but her next run was awful. Its hard to know what to make of her. Its wide open if she flops again.
Race 8. A tricky race to end the day. If African Messiah brings his best Cape form then he should win this but jockey arrangements are a concern with Boy Scout seemingly the stable elect. Oriental Tiger and The Carpenter have solid form, but I like Ex Nihilo as an improving 3yo.
