I’m sure it was this horse with Striker on at Greyville in a Grade 2 race?
The horse had leg issues or something and they gave it same/type of drug to “numb” the pain
Gotta give oom bill credit if u gonna make a horse run faster , may as well follow mike de kock lol

Asprin being treated like its a steroid.......not condoning the use but if you understand the drug then you will realise that it will hardly enhance to the level of super horse performance.
That aside, there has been and is a problem with testing and the presence of drugs in a horses system that anyone can administer. We have a system whereby the trainer is ultimately held responsible but anyone can get to the horse and you hardly ever see a Vet being taken on.
I am not saying that there are no trainers that have administered anything unintentionally, just look at the last 3 cases in Australia. What I am saying is that there are no proper protocols in SA which at least track the horse and the interaction of humans with said horse.

not sure if it was in a cream or powder form but I think it is more to do with overuse than performance enhancement - It can cause stomach ulcers
Gastrointestinal irritation and bleeding are the most common side effects. Frequent usage at higher doses may cause kidney damage, bleeding disorders, and protein loss. Occasionally, a horse that is allergic to aspirin will have difficulty breathing.
I personally have had problems years ago when I took Disprin for a few days for some pain - caused me stomach problems - Not sure if this is one of the reasons its on the list but eating a bottle full will not make a horse run faster nor will it dull the pain sufficiently if the horse has some sort of injury - If it was that effective then Oxycontin would not be prescribed to people living with pain

ps. but maybe they meant "acetylsalicylic acid"
......fingers is on the money.....Salicylic acid is not Asprin......it is the precursor to manufacturing of Asprin which is acetylsalicylic Acid and can also be be determined by testing too and is also a prohibited substance.
Salicyclic acid is not taken orally as it is extremely acidic it is actually used in humans as a topical epidermis (skin) remover and was used in acne creams and as an exfoliate in face masks....for leg and joint rubbing compounds commonly used on horses it acts as a skin penetrating analgesic desensitizing the inflamed area but then also gets into the bloodstream and can assist in blood thinning and assist in the increase of endorphin production....hence most of these external joint medications have been totally banned in some major racing jurisdictions simply because they eventually lead to abuse.....a few old timer trainers used to employ certain individuals as 'leg" men where these individuals would rub horses for hours with Wintergreen and other such type liniments then bandage with ice gel and send them off to a betting coup.....
