I see your point, but I don't think that breeding (fluking) one horse should make you champion breeder. Hendrik Winterbach and his wife bred Irridecence and Perfect Promise out of Meritricious while he was assist. stud manager at Varsfontein. On earnings, everything connected to Irridecence would have been champion (breeder, sire, trainer). The breeders certainly recognized their success with an extraorinary award catagory.

Jay Peg is a great example, as he was bred here and is SA bred completely. He has earned more than Horse Chestnut, Dynasty, Empress Club, Pocket Power and a few others combined. But does that make the Camden Park better than Fort Wood? Does that make H.Brown champion trainer of SA? The log should still mean something real.

When Hoeberg ran 3rd in Dubai, Jaffee said she earned more than winning 2 METS and 2 JULYs...for 3rd!

Clearly the problem is how to integrate enormous overseas stakes in US$ into a log where 99.99% of competitors compete here and for Rands. One can't deny what has happened overseas, but should a 6th in Dubai count as winning the MET here?

So the question is how would one create an integrated log?

Cat,
Using foreign earnings translated at the official rate?
Have you really thought about this?
One crap horse winning two handicaps in Hong Kong could be our next champion.

JD - with PEG and SUN CLASSIQUE here as 4 yr olds you would have had a different ballgame against PP....I assure you of that.PEG will be an even better 5 yr old.As i have said before watch the 2007 July rerun ..carefully!

Pocket Power may have DHed in the July. Otherwise his record in Natal is not so much good.

Top Top horse but i agree a more mature Jay Peg would have whacked him.

Pocket Power also has 2Gr1 seconds in KZN(Gold Challenge last year and Champions Cup on Sat)

What about Jay Peg's record in KZN ?
Beaten by distinctly non top class Dynamite Mike in the KZN Guineas, then nowhere in both the Gold Challenge and July, with PP lengths ahead on both occasions. Sure he has improved, but so has PP(has won both Met and july with top weight this year).

What would Pocket Power have done in Dubai this year - IMO a far superior horse to either Jay Peg or Sun Classique.
