horse of the year should be jay peg(local bred and international star - no doubt he would have defeated all before him if he had campaigned locally - no contest - it's like giving the rugby player of the year award to a domestic player and ignoring all the springboks-)

that's the point exactly you have to honour the best and jay peg was the best locally bred/trained horse this season - we have to look at the global market if we want to be global players - surely broodmare of the year would have to be his dam?

Agreed Mr H, JP should be horse of the year, but to say that he would have 'defeated all before him' is conjecture and not fact, Imo 'would have' and 'should have' should not come into it, it should be judged on what happened and what happened was that JP defeated some of the best horses in the world not once, but twice. Yes he was beaten by PP every time they met, but that was last season, and the award is for this season. Yes, JJ captured the public's imagination, but he has not competed internationally (surely his time will come). Might have been close between Sun Classique (does she qualify?) and JP, had JP not dug down so deep to win the Dubai race. But he did and imo it should be no constest.
Also interesting I think, is the 2yr old colt award; WWN swept all before him, but was beaten twice by Forest Path, who then got rolled by Rocks Off; so who is the best 2yr old colt of the season?

If international counts then there is surely only ONE winner. . .
Sun Classsique, made a bunch of Highly Rated Colts look average!
Winner hands down for me!
If based on SA then PP scraps it from JJ with DD in 3rd.
However I firmly believe that DD will be the Best Female in hte World next year!
Ouzo, to all connections of these fantastic Athletes - a credit to SA racing that's for sure.
Jim.
(oh to own even a tail on one of these beauts - lol!)

Go Go CC - LOL!
I love the way your 'reverse slating' got you another share in her - lol!
And no - mine is NOT for sale - hehe!
We'll she'll have to go some to beat DD that's for sure!
