Why would anyone take odds on in a Handicap.

I smell a golden hoard sized rat.
A few months ago hawwaam was "probably" not going to run in the July and baharin was their "July horse". Today Mike says that there was "never any doubt", according to him that hawwaam would run in the July.
They got all the pebbles and the cheese and the nuts and the acorns!!!
Good for them I guess????

Food for thought Chris..
The particular quote you are referencing as follows:
“Hawwaam is being pointed at the Champions Challenge and then we’ll make a decision on his next race, which could possibly be the Daily News. We’ll be entering him for the Durban July, but he is not certain to run there.
“Our July horse at this point is Barahin, who may go into the big race via the Jubilee Handicap, he may not be ready for the Daily News. But we’ll play it by ear, we’ll see how things go.”

From time to time MdK does say conflicting things. Once upon a time after the Derby win he said he would never again race Greys Inn over 2400m. He subsequently ran him in the Melbourne Cup over 3200m. And there are others in my jotter if you would really like to know.

Now my question is, does he just forget or do plans change or do they try and get a price?
Or could obviously be a confluence of the above and I don't blame him, just wondering.

General opinion from the regulars at the course yesterday was that Hawaam cannot win July based on yesterdays run

It has a relentless action which clearly wont be suited by the rough and tumble of the July
