In the future i think all buyers should register with a deposit and should be awarded numbered paddles to bid - telephone bidders should have a numbered rep(tba) at the sales - transperency for all - fair prices for all -

Just returned from the sales and if people sindicated there were a lot of bargains,as lots of horses were not sold.Ibelieve in the future we should get a group together and maybe purchase one oe two lots at these bargain prices.

Forget the overpriced yearling sales,we must ensure that next year we can string a group together and buy 2 or 3 or even four for the price of 1 yearling that will cost an arm and a leg.Horses were going for 15k onwards and we all now that its a lucky packet at the end of the day,as the horses with parrot mouths and scew feet can make a mockery of us. eg JJ THE JET PLANE.

Nobody can complain that horses are too expensive.

If one estimates that without the stallion fee a 2yo must cost min 60K (not that it matters in a market) then

Out of a possible 350
One bid bought 15
R60,000 bought any of up to 200 horses
65-120K bought another 75

(Roughly) 90% of horses on the sale affordable with 120K
It's the top 10% that bites the bank balance as usual.

Of the big hitter stallions (excepting Jet Master 2/9 and Silvano 0/9) most of them had (v roughly) 50% sell a 2yo below the their current service fee. Which mean either those two were expensive OR bargains in the others.

In fact the Sales Stats are misleading in that the great majority of sellers once again made a loss as is the norm on regional sales, which nevertheless is a steady source of horses who become graded winners.
