Incident happened on racing grounds as well according to the article. Unacceptable. Interesting to see if Candice will take him back, given the nature of the incident.

I see alcohol was involved. My advice to van Niekerk is "Give up alcohol".
You are too talented to kill your career with alcohol abuse!!!

Always say he was mad to leave, now where?
The reason why he was sacked will never truly come out unless he makes a statement?
This season his horses have earned 56 million HK$.
Exchange rate HK$1 is R2.45
That's nearly 140 million rand.
10% his cut so he earned 14 million rand this season.
You still think he was mad to leave?
Only his Stella Artois character has made him return.

Wii Buick rode in a big race in HK last year.
Went for a gap that was never there.Three month suspension, which included Derby ,Royal Ascot etc etc.
Facilities in Hong Kong first class and Racing very strictly controlled by HKJC.

Got to agree with eram, what is poor about it?
Bob and Sammy are probably talking about the quality of horses there.
Can't be that bad because some of our best horses haven't set the track alight there.
London News was special and maybe Singapore Sling was also decent.
Monks Hood not doing that well there yet, still got time, but not sure it has run a place yet.
The way racing is run there is on a different class compared to here.
Stipes do their job properly and the information available to punters is top class and punters actually attend race meetings.
The jockeys have to have decent credentials to be allowed to ride there and if you don't perform you won't get your license renewed.
Look at the way our racing is run,we haven't even got money to pay the full stakes which where weak in the first place.
Oh and we can't even be sure we will still have racing after this coronavirus issue.
I really do think HK racing is on a different level to ours that's why the surviving and we in deep kak.

Thank you, how many years will it take for sectional timing be readily available ( to ordinary punter)? Even other simple stats like actual horse weight is being used privately by trainers.
Its not easy to measure quality of horses in different jurisdictions. Its a Winx V Enable debate ( which never ends).SA had fair of its good horses who easily acclimatized eg J Jet Plane slaughtering Fairy King Prawn in HK Sprint.
