Yip Dave,I think that's what the whole hullabaloo was about, could have been the first leg of the Pick Six or something,I remember Willie Uys(and if I have the wrong Jockey my apologies,)declining to ride in JHB,as he received numerous "friendly messages"' that he wasn't welcome in JHB,

Bob going back to the above clip you must have noticed the weapons that were used to disrupt the race.
Sticks upon sticks upon sticks.
Well growing up in the 60's and 70's it was common to see almost every Zulu man walking with an induku or the more ominous looking knobkerrie.
The Zulus are good with stick fighting.
And the enclosure was either free or enter with racecard so sticks were allowed too, it seems.
Those without induku used palings to throw at the horses.

Mike, was this a workers protest or a punters protest?

LOL. Definitely a punters protest. The favourite refused to jump, it was the biggest meeting of the year at Clairwood Park on Boxing Day with the crowds so a lot of Xmas bonus money was on the favourite.
