Horses make fools of us is a good enough excuse for the stipes.
But I do think that his favorite was pulling a bit early and that might be why it had nothing to come late on.

If a reason was given, i missed it, what is/was the reason Captain Of Stealth has been off the track for so long - injured or just put away and they forgot they had the horse in the yard?

Not sure it's the horses, the trainers is a more rational answer. Take the first race for example - every trainer and jockey, their aim is to win races. Despite who rode "your" horse last time out, shouldn't you stable jockey take the ride, especially if you as the trainer feels it's your best winning chance on the card/day? The horse the stable jock was on, blew out in the betting and ran accordingly.
Take race 4, always been of the opinion, the claiming appies are not strong enough to come from behind, he was sitting closer to the back rather than the front, why. I did back the winner for what it's worth.
Give the incorrect instructions, and you have a fair idea of who will win the race - they making fools of us, not the horses.

You probably spot on there Bayern.
I was just stating that saying as when anything goes wrong that's an excuse many people use and the stipes reckon it's a valid excuse also.
Our stipes should go and sit with the stipes in HK and then they will learn what to look for to try and keep our horse racing clean and fair and have the guts to actually ask questions when things look a bit dodgy.

Shinnecock, even though caught three wide going into the turn, the appie didn't stop riding, or thought of backing off, he was determined to stay in touch even though someone did their best to keep him out/wide - that is riding to instructions. Had he got in from the jump, most probably won by half the race course.
@ Durbs, not disagreeing with you, you are correct, any old excuse shouldn't be good enough.

In the pre-race interview with Fiona, the trainer said that Bernard had ridden the horse incorrectly and that the horse needs cover and should not be up with the pace.

Fair enough Shadley but looking at the betting do you think the trainer actually had confidence that the horse could win?
5 Ruby Rhythm 7.50 8.50 7.00 6.50 8.50 7.50 7.00 7.75 8.00 10.00 12.00 14.00 16.00 20.00
Most trainers will find an excuse why the horse didn't win, that's how they give the owners some hope and keep getting their monthly training fee.Just look at the quality of some of the horses running in KZN,it's blatant to see that some are a waste of money for the owners yet the still racing after 10 or more unplaced runs.
There is plenty this side of the country that should be taking lighties for a ride in the Drakensberg and be nowhere near a race course.

Actually looking more closely at the betting,it drifted badly but someone did put a few hundred bucks on the horse at some stage so maybe they did actually give it a chance.
