Guys not sure what ur thoughts on Snaith even being on panel discussuon cos all he seems to so 99% of the time is point punters in the wrong direction (pers opinion). Eg, says his best is place on Pinkerton, but 5m before race stablemate gets all the money, runs fav and duly obliges and wins the race. Yes he is 1 of the best trainers around if only all trainers could be as transparent as Mr Zietsman or Mr Soma, this industry and instead of being on the the downwars curve might actually stand a chance of thriving. Amd Mr Soma put it in his interview, what ur bets and owners bets are down, how will be being transparent as possible with the punter that actually keeps this game going effect u as trainer or owner.

Don't know about that but it made me laugh when he kept mentioning in the Panel and in the lead-up how they were going to drop Captain's Ransom out and she'd have a ton to make up on WOA and then here goes Richard from the draw circling the field, yeah nice one mate we all believed you

Justin Snaith is not a honest man, he is racing for his own pocket. No regards for his owners and punters. Bullshitter by note.

I'm definitely not a fisherman - and I will probably be trying to figure out some results till the day I die - but for me, therein lies the challenge.

As per the race, imo the first fact to accept is that Captain's Ransom ran way below her form - whether there was something amiss with her, or if the jock just totally got the pace wrong by chasing her from that draw, we will never know for sure - but I think it may be a bit of both.

The 2nd thing to consider is that there is not a lot of form between Princess Calla and War of Athena over 1600 - yes WoA beat PC comfortably in the Woolavington over 2000, but it is quite possible that PC is a better filly over 1600 than 2000 - so with hindsight, not that difficult to explain that there was nothing between them over the 1600.

The winner Zarina of course had a flat run last time over 1400 (when favorite), causing many (including myself) to ignore her, but she may be a late maturing 3 yr old, and looking at her run in the KZN Fillies Guineas, there was less than a length between her and PC - and on Saturday she had the better draw - so (again in hindsight) she was not to be ignored.

Sometimes, it pays to ignore the obvious - if I remember correctly, this race produced a similar upset last year when 2 horses dominated the betting, but in that race I was looking to beat them, and with luck picked the winner in the ABC competition - one would think that I would remember that - but I do think that even if one ignored both CR and WoA, there were quite a few others that came into the race - and with luck one might have settled on Zarina - but obviously in my case, luck has deserted me on the day

Easy explanation here....
Between the time of the panel discussion and the actual race Snaith's other horse improved tremendously while Pinkerton had a cold and Justin just couldn't manage to get on TV to tell us the news.

To be fair, before he had to mention his 'best bet', he did mention that either of his runners in his opinion were good enough to win that race - yes in the end he did settle for Pinkerton - so he got it wrong - and yes the horse might have picked up something between the show (which I think was recorded on Tuesday already) and the race - for me though his best form is over 1400 and there was always the question mark about the extra 200m; imo to call the guy names, without providing any proof that he actually backed the other horse, is just sour grapes and not called for

You have always mentioned that horses are not machines, which is very true.
It's just you would expect the person who trains the horse and sees it every day could point the punter in the better direction.
I have seen Johnno on tv while the horses are going down to the start stating that his horse is a bit big and will need a run or two only for the horse to be backed heavily and win unextended by 8 lengths.
Maybe they just not good tipsters but I honestly think there are some out there who actually know more about the horses wellbeing than the trainer himself.
Too many times we hear will be green, will need the run or something like that only for the horse to win with plenty money on it.
Either that or we being told a bunch of lies sometimes.
But can you really blame them for trying to recoup some money for owners and themselves in a time when they racing for peanuts?

K De Melo again took me one leg out the P6 with Zarina. I am sure I saw Princess Calla winning on the photo finish.

Last year he took me one out the P6 with Temple Grafin.

Yes it was the Garden Province again.

Other jockeys that always tend to take me out include:

- Calvin Habib (the serial long-shot jockey)
- Yeni (always tries)

Really hard luck to all who had Princess Calla - and as you say I did not see the a photo that showed CLEARLY that Zarina had won - but as a punter one can't object :(

Damage done!
Justin Snaith should rather keep his arrogant big mouth shut...
The same is happening week in and week out when racing at Kenilworth. I would not let the Snaiths train a goldfish for me.
