barry some good points but what works for you yanks might not for us saffers and vica versa..the sooner we allow lasix the better.it is in my opinion the biggest lameness that occurs in our racing and we had lasix trials last year in november of which THE RESULTS HAVE STILL NOT BEEN MADE OFFICIAL.

You make valid points, magic.

However, as i see it, with night racing at Turfontein it seems almost off the table, Phumelela would like nothing more than gobble up the R40million.

AW track costs money and would mean more meetings, (not exactly what they have in mind, it would appear).

From what I understand, Cuckoo, it is intended to return to having three meetings a week in Gauteng during the peak season i.e., taking the place of the old Newmarket night meetings. Whether it will actually happen is another matter, but my understanding is that there is a good chance that this, and the Polytrack, will indeed come to pass.

However, history teaches us to adopt the "I'll believe it when I see it" approach once again. After all, we were promised all sorts of extra lesser-stakes meeting in Gauteng to make up for the loss of Bloemfontein (didn't happen), night racing at Turffontein (didn't happen) and racing at Newmarket for at least another several years (didn't happen).

So, yes, I understand your skepticism.

The tip off to what Phumelela thinks of live racing can be best judged by them turning over many of the responsibilities that racing associations throughout the world covet, but which they have abandoned. When they turned over marketing of the live product to a group of horse owners, that sounded the death knell, because all racing assocations want to proffer their propaganda through this method. That they would give it up, and to their mortal enemies "horsemen," tells me all I need to know. They only care about their signal and betting elsewhere.
