@Frodo...you are not "dof"...nobody does simple anymore...and I'm from a generation that always look to efficiency and simplicity...
Increasing viewership / access through free to air mediums is the simplest way to capture new customers and thus increase pools...as soon as some-one has to pay for a not too good product, they will avoid it...
The actions of the powers that be are that of persons that are trying to extract as quickly as they can more than they have put in rather than look at long term growing of pools, increasing viewership customers, etc...I read @Naresh's post about selection of venues for exotics...can the powers that be really say that they have tried to pick the best possible venues that will generate more revenue for eventually stakes increases?
OpenviewHD is something that must be pursued, even if only by KZN racing, as they already have about 2+ million members and growing...

Re: Massive Stakes Increases & Durban July Has New Sponsor!
3 years 6 months agoOf course any increase in prize money is good news; however I think this issue needs to looked at objectively. Firstly, I would want to know what happens after the honeymoon period? Secondly I agree with the sentiment that some of the monies should be spent in upgrading the systems etc - in that way more punters will turn to HW and the turnover (and stakes) would grow 'organically' (what a wonderful word dreamt up by the pony-tails) - o yes I almost forgot - thanks HW for the R10 credit in my account on my birthday
But the main talking point imo to be cleared up (and maybe someone more up to date with the goings on will know - but at my age I'm struggling to keep up) should be whether racing in KZN will be shown on any channel on the DSTV box from March - I have read conflicting reports on this - one view is that one would be able to watch Gallop on a DSTV channel - but the other view (which I think is more plausible) is that the signal can be captured by the same dish that enables one to watch DSTV, but that one would need an additional decoder to watch Galloptv. In stead of all the waffle by both 4Racing and GC/Gallop, please just tell us what the way forward is ito watching racing on TV - and I know there are all sort of wonderful innovations enabling one to stream both offerings (Gallop and 4Racing) should one be lucky enough to be able to afford the data costs, but imo what is needed is for 'racing' in SA to survive' is that the warring factions should bury their differences and come to an agreement so that Joe Public can watch local racing as part of their DSTV (or Openview or whatever else) bouquet - and of course the 'more affordable' the 'racing channel/s' are to Joe Public, the more people will subscribe
Maybe I'm just too dof for the modern world
Frodo play well with that R 10 u got from HW for your birthday..... try & at least DOUBLE IT !

Hi Frodo
You are right. GallopTV needs to provide clear ways on how to get the stream either than via the www.galloptv.co.za website. I have messaged the team and asked them to provide all the alternative options, especially with decoders. I will share on ABC once established.
Regards
Devin

My view is that YouTube be the best option for streaming Gallop.tv.
Goldcircle already has a channel with almost 10k subscribers. Everytime you watch the stream on YouTube an advert of not more than 12 seconds shall play with Goldcircle getting a percentage of the revenue. Everytime you leave and go back an advert might play so it will be more revenue for them. Also I have watched many live streams from sports to news and with even over 20k watching there is no lag on YouTube. If you have it on your own website streaming more bandwidth will be required and that's when the buffering happens.
In the longterm Openview is certainly the way to go with possibly Etv getting the exclusive TV rights for the July which will entice them.
