2026 EAST CAPE NURSERY – WHO WILL BE THE MASTER?

Johannesburg, South Africa — It’s all about juvenile talent on Friday as Fairview Racecourse hosts the 2026 renewal of the R175,000 East Cape Nursery (Listed).

Reigning East Cape Champion trainer Alan Greeff has held a vice grip on this race for the last 5 years and saddles three of this year’s six contenders due to face the starter at 14:55. Pine Lodge Stud & Halo Stables T/A Halo Syndicate (Nom: Mr A C Greeff)’s U S Ranger (Act Of War) is the pick of the Greeff trio and with the services of Richard Fourie in the saddle, should be right in the firing line.

However, Messrs D D B Band, Sivan Ramsamy, C S Shapiro, D C Stonebridge, J R M Tostee & F Toweel & Mr & Mrs C R Stonebridge’s unbeaten Master Mtoto (Real Gone Kid) from the Dean Smith yard is likely to go to post the warm favourite. He has bested U S Ranger in both their previous meetings and has strong claims to EC Nursery honours for 2026. Craig Zackey has saluted on both his previous outings, but with Zackey not riding at Fairview on Friday, Master Mtoto will be partnered by Calvin Habib instead.

Both stables are confident that their charges will run well and it should prove a fascinating rematch.

Final Field:

EAST CAPE NURSERY (Listed) (For 2yo Horses) R175000 1200m

1 - 3 FIRST OFFICER (A Greeff) K Strydom 60.0
2 – 5 INTO RED SPACE (K Mitchley) M Yeni 60.0
3 – 2 JUST CARTER (D Smith) C Maujean 60.0
4 - 1 MASTER MTOTO (D Smith) C Habib 60.0
5 - 4 U S RANGER (A Greeff) R Fourie 60.0
6 - 6 DAFFODIL DELIGHT (A Greeff) K Minnie 60.0
Same Trainer: (1,5,6) (3,4)

ENDS.

Yeni off.....Khathi on.....put Yeni...stable jock...on the other one
Bookies drift it to 12-1 thinking Yeni on stable preference all the while the Mitchelly stable licking their lips at the price and punt it to 7-2 and wins like a July horse against maidens.
