I hope Greg thanks the other jocks, particularly Bernard, for gifting him the race.

As they say thats racing and u gotta take your chances in this game so well done for Greg anyway.

What i've never understood is that if there's no early pace and the jock is farting around at the back of the field why they can't get to work early, make their own pace if need be and ride for their life.

How often do we here this excuse about pace? I don't buy it...

DANCER'S DAUGHTER, starting at an almost unbackable 1-4, could manage only a lacklustre third to 15-1 shock Emblem Of Liberty (Geoff Woodruff/Greg Cheyne).

Pocket Power's arch-rival after dead-heating with the champ in last year's Durban July, the British-bred grey, a daughter of Act One, had only one behind her turning for home.

Although she quickened when Bernard Fayd'herbe asked her, she did not do so with her usual surge and at the line she was still a head and half a length behind the winner and River Jetez.

Bitterly disappointed trainer Justin Snaith said: "There is something wrong - she's never run as badly as that.

"I am going to get her checked out. It's nothing physical so it must be a lung infection or something like that."

The winner is part-owned by Cheyne's wife Claire and is trained by five-times champion Geoff Woodruff, who said that this was the one South African Grade 1 race he had never won.

The former Kent-based amateur rider added: "I thought we had no chance with Dancer's Daughter but my motto is ‘never run away from one horse.'"

Bubby, great call.

This win by Emblem of Liberty certainly makes my filly Gypsy's Warning look pretty good right about now, having run a good third coming from out of the clouds upon the occasion of her season debut in the G2 Ipi Tombe Stakes. I
she is going to be difficult to beat in a race like the G1 SA Fillies Classic.

Ah well - that's racing lol!

Still DD will be a much better price come the 'big one' - ignore her at your peril. . .

Please also refer to MY ADVICE FOR 2009 Rule 1 original post by GERI 02 January 2009. I think that races like this, with horses priced at LESS than 5/10, should rather just be watched and enjoyed by people rather then trying to trick your local bookmaker (exotics should be your best bet if you trying to fool them then). Most of the time the latter is always smiling on their way to the bank. People would then not have to debate furiously afterwards why the horse didnt win or had won. All they have to say is it was a great SA race with good thoroughbreds competing. The risk is higher then the reward. 1/4 will not make anyone rich.

Bubby, on the contrary, because all of those people taking 1 to 4 are the ones that "break even" in Las Vegas!
