oscar the stock market works in strange ways,i dont follow phum shares as they are a small cap company and therefore not much volume is traded on them..in the current climate i wouldnt touch the small caps.as far as im led to believe for phum to take over gc the members of gc would have to vote on it as its in their constitution..they would have to get an overwhelming majority to get it passed

Durbanville does not belong to GC.To sell they would have to negotiate with the local council.Guess who holds all the aces in this hand.

not sure what happened today - P's share price went down by 9% in one day, but no announcement. take pirates advice - small cap company with very low liquidity in the shares is a recipe for burning your fingers

value of a GC deal for P shares is all about the price to be paid - there are bound to be economies of scale, but how much of that value will have to be paid to secure the deal?

come to think of it, who would receive the price in the case of a section 21 entity - GC members?

EDIT: that's certainly one way to secure an overwhelming majority in GC-land

I would like to know what Alcaponee bases his theory on when he says Clairwood is a better course than Greyville and Scottsville. Yes Clairwood is a very honest course, but i think having a course with a short straight ie. 450m, makes a positive change for punters - the draw makes a big difference so jockeys have to ride more tactically and skillfully in order to over come the wide draw!!! Sometimes watching Turffontein and Vaal racing can become a bit monotonous seeing horses finish with many lengths between them!!! But dont get me wrong - i still love joburg racing, Turffontein in particular is a great course which we just cant do without....

I have personally heard jockeys say that Greyville is a great course in terms of the racing surface and the general shape of the course. In terms of the oncourse punter - you dont get a better place to watch racing live - that i am positive of as ive been to most racecourses around the country!!!

AB whats the timing?..I say its definitely gonna happen..I say its fairly soon..I would imagine goodbye to management duplication..goodbye to Durbanville, Clairwood and maybe one of the PE courses (having 3 courses in KZN, 2 in PE, 1 in Free State and 1 in Gauteng is so ridiculous its bizarre!). Share price must go up unless the financial problems at GC are worse than we been told.

Question I have when it happens:

1.Who gets CEO job?
2.Who gets FD job?
3.Who gets Marketing Directors job?
4.How many retrenchments?
5.Would Tellytrack be upgraded?
6.Would RA become national and who would get the top job?

and then of course

7. Would stakes improve?

Asking around its not gonna happen..I feel sorry for WC when they have to renegotiate stakes based on turnover?

Hukky - Sorry I missed your post of 25 March 2009. I need to correct you on something - I said Clairwood is a better course than Scotssville and Greyville is leased as far as I am aware. I never said that clairwood is better than both.

I have been to all 3 and as far as condition and appeal goes Clairwood leads as far as I am concerned. They do not call Clairwood the garden course for nothing. KZN is quite unique in that we offer a left and right handed track and Clairwood is also a stabling and training facility from what I can gather. Clairwood therefore serves a good multi purpose. I would not like to see this go down in history as another tragic mistake.

You must remember that it is highly unlikely that the loss of any track will ever resort in a track being replaced in the future. Its a crying that we must accept the loss of a piece of history just to try and satisfy insatiable greed
