The British Horseracing Authority has dismissed trainer Karl Burke's appeal against a one-year ban.
Burke was disqualified after he admitted passing information for reward at a BHA hearing in July - although he had hoped to have his punishment reduced.
However Burke has seen his bid rejected, with the appeal panel, chaired by Sir William Gage, ordering him to pay £4,000 towards costs and forfeit his £800 deposit.
Burke, who has transferred his Spigot Lodge string to the care of his father-in-law Alan Jarvis, had trained Lord Shanakill to Group One success at the Prix Jean Prat earlier in the season.

Lynch asks for more time to pay £50,000 fine
JOCKEY Fergal Lynch, who accepted a £50,000 fine as part of a plea bargain with the BHA at the end of the longrunning
race-fixing inquiry last year, in which he admitted serious offences, has asked for more time to pay.
Lynch was given six months to paywhen the BHA’s disciplinary panel concluded the inquiry in June, to which
he admitted stopping a horse, supplying inside information for six of his rides, and betting and associating with the disqualified Miles Rodgers.

Failure to pay could result in Lynch’s name being added to the forfeit list, which would prevent him from resuming
his career.
BHA spokesman Paul Struthers said:
“Fergal Lynch has applied to have more time to pay his fine but that is something that will have to be considered
by the disciplinary panel.
“He put his application in before the deadline passed on December 24, but with the Christmas break and bad
weather it has not been heard. Were the panel not to agree to the application and he didn’t pay, he would go on the
forfeit list, which is the equivalent of being disqualified.”
Lynch relocated to the US in the summer of 2008 to ride for his brother, trainer Cathal, where he quickly established himself as the leading rider at Philadelphia Park, his 99 winners netting prize-money of $2.4 million – of which he is estimated to have earned $200,000.
The 31-year-old had hoped to continue to ride in the US after agreeing to pay a £50,000 fine as part of a deal under
which he could reapply for a UK licence in July, but he was banned from riding at Philadelphia Park as a result of his
“activities in Britain”. He subsequently surrendered his US licence, agreeing not to return to ride there until he has
secured approval to race-ride in Britain.

But why are these people not appealing against the racing authorities etc for denying them the right to earn a living??? That's the argument here in SA.... I mean they could never earn a living in another industry... They should be banned for life.
Maybe they should move to SA actually... they'll get a R10K fine and still make a profit from the coup.... and nobody will even know what he did because it would be kept low key in the press, just in case it brings horse racing into disrepute... and then he will fix tomorrows racing again...

My point is... they would have got away with it, with only a slap on the wrist here in SA... These people should be banned for life.
