Good point Saksy... If we could cover our big days like BBC did for the Derby & oaks meetings that would be great.. Sat glued in front of the tv for the both meetings, the slow-mo cams, the interviews with trainers before the races, correspondents in the jockey room, parade ring,bookies.. all adds to the xcitement and builds the races into the big events that they should be recognised as.. to see the emotions and body language on the jocks as they drove their mounts to the line.. Goosebump stuff... Come on Tellytrack, please please try this.. As a young avid racing fan, I know that to make racing attractive to the mainstream market coverage like this is needed. All my mates find watching racing boring.. This needs to be fixed..

Mickey using the BBC as an example of how to cover Race meets is not good considering they are a part time racing channel that cover a few meetings per year.

They get away with their shocking knowledge of the sport by the occasion they are covering coming to their rescue.

Having Bill and Ben the flower pot men(claire balding and willie carson) presenting racing is a big turn off for most punters and probably one of the reasons that they dumped Uk horse racing for other sports like ping pong and show jumping!!

Saksy - Your comments about a 'temporary' additional channel ( it would probably be Channel 207 ) make sense. Interestingly it has already been done - for this year's Epsom Derby when Investec were the sponsors.

To date nobody has seemingly been able to determine who made the decision to provide what was simply outstanding coverage on the spare channel. Was it the operator or was it Investec? Apart from anything else they offered the selfsame picture as Tellytrack with such improved definition and sharpness that I thought someone had possibly given me free HD.

Radetsky - I have often wondered why owners don't employ a little 'industrial action' from time to time. I don't imagine it would require many missed meetings to, at least, get the attention of the operators. I personally would be quite happy to withhold my four donkeys from racing activity if the purpose of the 'action' was acceptable to me. At the very longest shutting down a centre for a month could have a pretty dramatic impact in reminding everyone just who provides the players in this particular game.

As things stand I have always maintained that we have too much racing and that everyone would benefit from a break to regroup, do horse sickness shots and take a well deserved holiday. Giving every horse a minimum of 30 days per annum in nice large country paddocks could only benefit.

Where this 'protest' strategy could unravel is in the matter of international racing. UK support appears to have being growing steadily in recent years despite the operators providing only the most arbitrary amount of material to assist punters in making selections as well as often fragmented TV coverage. If UK meetings selected were less random and the supply of meaningful publications for studying form more accessible ( eg the operators supplied free Racing Post on line ) this market could grow exponentially. If for no other reason than that the percentages UK bookmakers bet to often makes RSA prices look embarrassing. Or fraudulent.

I still remain a little perplexed that so many posters on this site don't appear to comprehend the difference in 'class' that they are witnessing when a major UK meeting is broadcast. I respect their loyalty towards the local product but in rugby terms it is rather like preferring Vodacom Cup to Tri Nations! Certainly the manner in which many of our supposed 'superstars' have been dealt with by their foreign competitors ( the exceptions largely being foreign breds trained by SA trainers ) would suggest that, in most, cases we are getting excited about pretty ordinary animals.

if i recall correctly at the time that the bidvest sponsorship was announced 2 years ago there was a statement that the funding would be put towards a second channel. scotia you may remember this as it is a subject dear to your heart. naturally P's website carries a dense file of news releases all the way back to... um, the summer cup at the end of last year. another quality service to the racing punter.

Not me MM. This AB has me mistaken for somebody else who obviously got under his skin and ever since I have come onto these pages he has been nagging at me and I feel enough is enough now thus my aggression toward him.

Thanx Garrick,

What u replied makes great sense and i agree fully...

Furthermore can u imagine huge omners like mr. Jooste and Mrs. Oppenheimer has to start an action in that regard...and yep nothing like our donkeys taking a well deserved holiday in the paddocks at the farm...

Mike - makes sense - get a sponsor for the 2nd channel like the golf...

My question is this...why is the poker channel so successfull? Lots of us enjoy poker from time to time and i'm sure most poker players/fans punt as well...
