FLEETING SPIRIT'S participation in Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock isground dependent according to trainer Jeremy Noseda.

The Darley July Cup winner was forced to miss the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes with a minor injury but Noseda is delighted with her recent work though he did warn against running her on soft ground.

Quoted on his website, Noseda said: “She will run if the ground is good or faster. We would not run if the ground was to come up soft.

“Ideally I could have done with another two weeks preparation for this as she has suffered a couple of setbacks since her win in the July Cup.

“However, I have been delighted with her work and feel with a bit of luck she can run well.”

Fleeting Spirit is a 9-2 chance with the sponsors and Coral for the race.

I have taken a bet on JJ, the connections are trying to get on a plane (hope you come right Nats?)

I think the horse is now the right price for a decent ew.

High Standing given go-ahead for Sprint Cup

HIGH STANDING, 7-2 favourite with the sponsors for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday, has been given the go-ahead for the Group 1 event with connections having no fears of the prospect of deteriorating weather in the run-up to the meeting.

Rain is forecast for Haydock, where the going is good on the sprint course but soft elsewhere on the track, but the five-year-old son of High Yield had few problems handling soft ground when successfully stepping out of handicap company on his last start to beat Prime Defender by a length and a quarter in the Group 3 Shadwell Stakes at Newbury.

Trainer William Haggas also has Triple Aspect entered but warned that the three-year-old could miss the race if the rain does arrive.

Haggas said: "High Standing will definitely run but I probably wouldn't run Triple Aspect if it came up soft."

From Richard hannon`s website

JJ is launched at Haydock

We might not make as many high-profile signings as Mark Hughes does for Man City, but everyone at Richard Hannon's stable has been excited since JJ The Jet Plane arrived at Everleigh, having been transferred from Mike de Kock's stable, and we are all looking forward to his first run in Saturday's Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock.

Hannon, who will be flying up for the race, said:"JJ worked exceptionally well on Tuesday morning and he seems in really good form. His July Cup run puts him right there, and, though his best form has been on decent ground, the straight course at Haydock is supposedly not nearly as soft as the rest of the track, so, hopefully, conditions won't be too bad."

High Standing in 'good shape' for Sprint Cup

A DAY after his return to race-riding, Kieren Fallon is back in Group 1 action when he partners the William Haggas-trained High Standing in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock.

The rider's last success at the top level was aboard Dylan Thomas in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 2007 and Haggas is hopeful High Standing, the ante-post favourite for the 6f sprint, can add to Fallon's impressive collection of wins.

"He seems in very good shape so I'm hoping he runs a big race," Haggas said on Friday.

"He's been working his way up, doing well, but this is his biggest test so far. I can't see the ground being anything other soft, but he's won on that, so it shouldn't be aproblem."

A total of 13 rivals await Fallon and High Standing, among them Darley July Cup runner-up Main Aim, who flopped at Goodwood in the Betfair Cup last time.

Owner Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthopre said: "Nothing came to light to explain Goodwood, so we're working on the basis that the race came a bit quickly after the July Cup.

"He's been in good form since, training nicely, and I think the ground at Haydock should suit him."
