I wonder what you would have done if you were stuck in Harrisburg (Pensylvania) with 44 USD in your pocket no bank or credit card and you were on your way to Los Angeles?
1. Phoned home and pleaded for financial assistance
2. Got in touch with the SA embassy
3. Held up a cafe
4. Got back to New York and flew back to where you came from
5. Oh just said fuck it I am going to get to LA one way or the other (like I did)

I have never never never claimed a penny from the system. In all the time that I have been here I have been to the doctors 3x for just normal check ups. I in all honesty would rather starve and live in my car than bum off the state.

So you think that I did not plan my trip to the US? Well let me tell you a story if you have the time. I arrived in NYC with roughly 600 USD. Enough to keep me going for 2 weeks and then enough to catch the Greyhound across. (in hindsight I should never have thought of sitting on a bus for days on end because a. Very uncomfortable and b. ITs the right way to travel if you are only going to be subjescted to there tight schedules for say 3-10 hours). So I spent my 2 weeks in Manhatten doing what most people on a tight budget do like staying in the YMCA and eating at fast food joints and walking most of the time. Unfortunately the 350 that I had left in the room was stolen and all I had on me was a bus ticket to Philadelphia because I intended staying there for two days and then moving on.
Got on the bus in New York and arrived in Philly a couple of hours later. I disembarked from the bus and to my delight spotted a 20 dollar bill on the ground. I snapped it up like a crocodile snapping at a dead chicken. I then made my way to the Salvation Army and asked them for help. They gave me food tickets for Mac Donalds and directed me to the Pink Hotel for a two night stay. Gunshots rang out for most of the two nights. Two days later I made my way down to the bus station and hopped on the bus to Harrisburg. When I arrived in Harrisburg I pleaded with the driver to take my two bags onto LA. He humbed and arred but eventually agreed and gave me a slip so that when I eventually arrived there I would be ablke to collect my bags.

Yes you are right again because after that episode I never ever travelled again without a credit card and or travellers cheques (yes I did pass the credit check in order to have a credit card or two)

It's quite amazing how you two bicker. Now all the other people on here would wonder why it has come to be that you two argue.....
Me I don't give a stuff why you fight, but I emplore you to continue. I find it very entertaining. Both have great and diverse views.
Don't stop boys....Have at it!!!!

Yessir,
I now live in NYC with my beautiful new bride.
Still love SA dearly and not a day goes by that I don't want to jump on a place, but you can't help who you fall in love with right?

I could not live there as its far to noisy in Manhatten that is. There is only about a one hour time frame when that city is "quiet" thats between 3 and 4 am.
Love the smell of the city. I was caught in a down pour one August afternoon and boy did it come down.

Being from Johannesburg originally I'm not mad about Big Cities either, but for now this is home.
Hopefully we will be able to move to Las Vegas sooner rather than later.
Only problem is tthat the time difference between Las Vegas and South Africa will make my punting even more difficult!!!!
ha ha ahahah

On my travel across the US (hitch hicked) I spent a week in Vegas. I arrived in Vegas with about 5 USD and a quarter. I went into the first casino I saw and dropped that quarter into a slot. You wont believe it but out came 25 dollars. I eventually left Vegas after that week with about 170 dollars in my pocket and headed off across the desert toward Bakersfield. Life was good yet again but not for too long

Take it from someone who knows. Take that $25 (which I know you don't have anymore) and NEVER go back to another casino again!!!
lol
This from a man who has spent most of his adult life inside a casino.....In one form or the other!!!

The best thing about the casinos is the buffet. Cheap and in abundance.
Now I see why you wish to go and live in Vegas and its not for the showgirls, its for those tables
