Okay. We must believe one way or another that the horse has improved beyond recognition overnight. BTW, times are hugely influenced by weather and going conditions and can mislead greatly if taken in isolation.

His time of 56.15(if accurate) is quick,so you could be correct, but 10 points for his win just seems excessive.

Bandol broke the course record when winning his maiden at Fairview, and I subsequently made him a good thing next time out.He won,but literally fell across the line against a moderate bunch. The PE tracks have been running quick of late(obviously the track conditions today will change that) and times in isolation(as Magic says) are a dangerous way of assessing a horses chances of winning in this country.

I feel the same Magic and I hope we are both not left red-faced

Mr H, the risk of an egg-splattered face goes with the territory! The problem with reading too much into Oceans Away's fast last time is that by definition every other horse in the race ran the 1000m faster than usual too. To suggest that they all 'improved' on the same day is patently absurd.

Measured against the 3rd,4th and 5th horses in that race he ran to a MR of +- 90 .On that he is theoretically well hdcpd(unless you accept Sleepless Nights as the 'line' horse)
Perhaps he has just returned to the form where he was rated at 85!

This is the kind of debate that ensures that there are "backers" and "layers" on betting exchanges.

His 85 rating was 'achieved' against one of the worst maiden fields ever and he had to drop into the 60s before he could win again! He was no more an 85 back then than I was Miss World.

Rob, I was away for Oceans Away's last race so I never studied it and I don't have the card. 10 pounds just strikes me as bizarre. At a guess I would have thought a 4 or 5 pound rise would have been sensible?
