Good posts guys, I must admit was upset with the turnout yesterday, I am sure changing from Sat to Sunday did not help, however with the build up to the event I am sure all racing lovers were sad that these top jocks did not get the following expected.
It will be interesting to see the attendance at the Summer Cup as its been well promoted, but as you say maybe not in the right direction, only time will tell.
See you at the races?

Greg i must disagree with you here - Ellis park has for years been in a far worse area than Turffontein yet crowds come from all over to watch events there - It's about separating the SPORT from the gambling - the FAN from the punter - most punters in tabs are not fans they are punters and if they all had DSTV and telebet accounts the totes would be empty but turnover would remain constant. Some of my dearest friends are punters yet they have no idea what the difference is betwen a colt or gelding. They back Sweden, Ngong UK HK and singapore with little or no form at their disposal and can give you the first names of maybe five of our top ten jockeys. They do not have a clue who Fort Wood is and you'd be hard pressed to find any of them that would know Mr Prospector or Saddler's Wells. All they want is a chance to dream of winning big or at the very least making enough cash to buy a couple of drinks after racing - nothing wrong with this philosophy at all and the more punters like this we have the better as they will ensure turnover regardless of where, how and when we race. The secret is to find more of these people to grow turnover and eventually some will become purists which will keep the game going. As in all walks of life the general population should always be the rule to expand - sell to the masses and you'll never go broke or without solidiers you can have no GENERALS.

Sorry Pirates I am no longer involved but the idea was always to target non racing folk and to continually invite them via SMS and email to all racing events following the day so as to build up a new group of supporters - hopefully by word of mouth they would invite their friends etc(this I believe was being done from what I was told)

Welcome PEJ,
We don't bitch here, we only give of our opinions.
I'm sure the day was very enjoyable for all who attended, but what did it do for horseracing?
Did it increase revenue??? (NO)
Did it increase course attendance? (NO)
Did you watch great horses run?? (NO)
But for the VERY few who got to shake hands with these living legends, I'm sure it was a great day!
Good to have a new poster. Enjoy dude!!

Just to change the subject and on crowd attendance, the cricket had a dismal attendance yesterday, me think pockets are empty and these sporting events are luxuries for most South Africans. Tickets at R240 a pop and you were not allowed to take your own food and drinks into the stadium...Rough calculating it would cost a family of FOUR about R1400 bucks for the day....

HEY TOMMY HOTSPUR, SORRY IF THE COMMENTS SOUNDED LIKE BITCHING? SORRY EVEN MORE THAT TURNOVER DID NOT GO UP? BUT I DID REALLY ENJOY THE DAY AND WILLL FOLLOW THE INTERNATIONAL GUYS MORE CLOSELY. MAYBE IF IT HAD NOT RAINED AND WE HAD RACED ON SATURDAY?
I DO WONDER WHAT IMPRESSION THE INTERNATIONAL GUYS HAD AFTER RIDING THE AVERAGE HORSES AND NOT OUR FEATURE RACE HORSES LIKE LAST YEAR?
WHAT IS THE NORM IN THE OTHER COUNTRIES? DO THEY RACE THE TOP HORSES ON INTERNATIONAL DAY?
