Plus well done to Herman Brown!!!!!!!!
Shocking beats Crime Scene in Melbourne Cup
Report: Australia, Tuesday
Flemington: Emirates Melbourne Cup (Group 1 hcap) 2m, 3yo+
BRITAIN was forced to settle for second place for the third year in succession as Shocking (Mark Kavanagh/Corey Brown) got the better of Godolphin's Crime Scene in the final furlong of the Emirates Melbourne Cup.
Crime Scene travelled sweetly under Kerrin McEvoy in about sixth place before being switched wide after turning for home and hitting the front with over a furlong to go.
Shocking followed him through, however, and was always just getting the better of their duel to the line under jockey Corey Brown, gainingredemption for an agonisingly narrow defeat 12 months earlier on the Luca Cumani-trained Bauer.
Mourilyan, formerly trained in Britain by Gary Moore, emerged from the pack to take third.
Crime Scene was the third Godolphin representative to take second in the race following Central Park (1999) and Give The Slip (2001). Luca Cumani's Purple Moon finished second in 2007 before Bauer.
Shocking, a four-year-old son of Darley stallion Street Cry, wassent off a 9-1 winner for trainer Mark Kavanagh.

My mate told me he had R400 odd on exacta's - HALF THE POOL - the last time I've seen something so ridiculous was when I went to Zimbabwe many years ago and had a "big bet" maybe R300 on the tote there and I had a third of the pool! Service goes from bad to worse.

I have one more thing to add....
The commentary on the race was absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! To call a big field of 24 horses in such detail with such great description is unbelievable....and he never missed a beat or miscalled a horse!!
Thats what you call a commentator!!!!

TAB appologises for the technical problems that disrupted betting on the Melbourne Cup racemeeting this morning. Although we do thoroughly test our systems when connecting up to international meetings of this nature, unfortunately occasionally problems do occur to the frustration of all parties including the technicians, who managed to resolve the issues before the commencement of race 9 from Flemington but unfortunately too late for some TAB customers who wished to bet on the Melbourne Cup.

Government urged to seize Mourilyan money
THE federal government has been urged to seize the Melbourne Cup prize money of third-placed Mourilyan, who is owned by Chechen dictator RamzanKadyrov.
The Australian Greens believe the A$420,000 in prize-money should be held by the government until it can be sure the money won't be used to fund Kadyrov's dictatorship.
Kadyrov, the richest man in the former Soviet state, has been likened to Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong-il because of the human rights abuses and murders he has allegedly perpetrated in Chechnya.
One of the pre-race favourites, Mourilyan ran a late third behind the Victorian-based Shocking, and runner-up Crime Scene.
It was a lucky result, otherwise even more money would be funnelled to Kadyrov, said Greens leader Bob Brown in a statement.
"There should be no flow of profits out of Australia to this brutal character," he said on Tuesday.
"The money should be quarantined until the government knows exactly where it is going and can guarantee it won'tbe buying Mr Kadyrov another Lamborghini or gold-plated revolver."
He wants racing authorities to set up a system that would assess the credentials of overseas owners who seek to profit from Australian racing.
Experts previously suggested the Melbourne Cup could become part of an international money laundering system if Mourilyan, which raced in the red, white and green of the Chechen flag, won any prize-money.
Kadyrov was believed to have watched the race from the Chechen capital, Grozny.
