some sums and assumptions..
Gauteng have 104 bookmakers.
each require about R50k per month for private use.
so 104 bookmakers x R50k each = R5,200,000 pm for private use..
all if not most bookmakers lay on the following princical
1. Fav for R10k
2, 2nd fav for R5k
for the bigger (braver) ones, you can double the bets.
and remember the debate on betting percentages on Interbet..etc..just not enough going around when we play fair..
The business model used cannot make an additional R50k profit for each bookie for his private use.
Hence I suggest..
each bookie lays at least 1 horse per month that is NO GOOD for R100k or R200k.
or 2 horse for at least R50K each..
believe me..I know..there is just not enough money to play fair..
been there..stood as a bookie for 18 months..
once the public know, a no good horse will get no money..drift off the board.
so..we operate..survival...organise..stand a horse..
either 104 horses for 104 bookmakers..pm
104 races...pm
3 races per day..
or 208 horses for 104 bookmakers...pm
208 races..pm
6 races per day..
or are the punters suckers...????

some more assumptions..
the top trainers get 10% of the stakes they win..
so 10% of R10,000,000 is only R1,000,000 pa.
or R76k pm x 13 cheques..
ask any trainer..even if he gets R545,000 pm in training fees (excel sheet only)
whether he makes money from training fees...none..
so a top trainers..6 or 7 earns average R76K pm...
how do the small guys make it...
PUNT....and wrap the stash in plastic bags..freeze it in the deep freeze..

Most jockeys have 10 rides a week..
40 rides a month...
40 rides X about R500 per ride = ....R20k pm x 12 months = R240k pa....
R240K pa gross
the medical is covered after about 13 rides pm by the jockey club?
take off tax...
take off cell..
take off petrol...
take off equipment...
then we give them 8% of the stakes..
sure the top guys make big $$$$..but thats 7 or 8 of them..
where do the rest get money...
PUNTERS...BOOKMAKERS....
or because they are small...they use less money....????

Guys a very interesting debate but come on this game is open to so much manipulation its a joke - Trainers now use races to get horses fit -That was not allowed before -merit rating is good but also open to all sorts of manipulation - if this was a squeaky clean game and an exact science we would all be rich- the truth is we all have an idea to beat the system we just havent perfected it .I wish i had the answer but ive seen enough nonsense in this game to know that i still need luck on my side to win . Guess what im still a victim.

Nice topic Andre. It's such a pitty the racing public missed the days we spent in your pvt box at Turffontein. The days when Paul Whitmore,Gerard Viljoen and many many other jock's and trainers came over and informed us about what's what on the card.
Nothing has changed and i meen NOTHING!!! They have whoever is in charge by the balls and there is nothing anyone can do about it.At the end of the day it's all about your perseption of the form book.As you know the only way to beat the bookies is to stick to the Fitness Rating i developed 10 years ago,the same 1 ur using to do all your exotic bets.It works and will continue working for the next million years. All i ask is,please dont change a single thing in racing. The bottom line is - The Merit Rating is incorrect !!! No maiden winner should ever be top weight in a hcp race!!! Imagine Maxibet posting all our top rated horses at ABC,there would'nt be any bookies left in a very short time.Anyway, can't wait to meet up with you in Dec for a nice long holiday. My betting book closes in 2 weeks time and then fun in the sun.Ps will sms you Maxibet's two runners for the day.Who wins the Summer Cup? ........ORACY IS THE HIGHEST RATED HORSE ON THE CARD.Will win easy on our rating alone. The jock must hold on for dear life.Enjoy ur day mate.Regards Andre B.
