I tend to agree with you rubyclipper, the old parade ring had more character.

True, but love the idea of the parade ring in the front, same as Newmarket and the Vaal, imo a better concept

Great concept... terrible execution... Even so, accidents will happen wherever the ring is, and children should never be allowed into a parade ring, no matter how "cool" it is. And.... I miss Germiston - that was the *best* parade ring of the lot!

Horse put down after collision with car
A CAR driver escaped serious injury at Leopardstown on Tuesday when a riderless horse collided with his car on nearby Westminster Road after running off the course.
Mourne Rambler, a winner of his previous start for trainer Tony Martin, fell at the last in the Ryan Events Cleaners Beginners' Chase and escaped the confines of the course through a gate that was open to allow horseboxes to leave.
He ran into oncoming traffic and had to be put down as a result of his injuries. In 12 starts for the Dewsweepers Syndicate, the seven-year-old won four times, including the valuable Racing Post Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse in April.
A course spokesman said: "The horse ran out the Foxrock gate into oncoming traffic and collided with a car. Our racecourse vet James Burns had to put the horse down and the driver was taken to St Vincents Hospitalwith severe shock. He is waiting to be seen in the casualty department."
Martin said: "It was one of those things and the horse got out the gate and seemingly crashed into a car. It was an accident but I'm sorry to lose thishorse as he was a proper horse and he was on his comeback after winning four-times for us."

There is risk in everything we do; kids are killed in car accidents, so does this mean that we should not allow kids to be driven around in cars? I am sure kids are also killed in horse riding accidents, does this mean that we should never allow our children near horses?
Accidents are going to happen; the point here is that we need to make sure htat the best possible precautions are taken to minimize the effect should an accident occur. So the question is, does the new parade ring minimize the risk? I don't believe so, no matter how 'great a concept it is' (and I don't think that the July lacks in atmosphere and that is off course run at a track where the parade ring is at the back)

In the old ring there was plenty of space to move away from a wayward horse... in the new ring you play bumper cars with the other owners if you so much as side step a swishing tail... Not kid friendly at all... Frodo, I agree... plenty of atmoshpere at Greyville, and Clairwood, and Scottsville for that matter...

Did the glass kill the horse or was it safety glass. Could racing authorities have made any difference.
Dont think racing is for kids. Should never have been allowed on track not a place to bring a little person on a regular basis.
Cant take them onto a casino floor but horsies not a problem. Even when the entire calendar sponsored by a Gambling entity.
