ARLINGTON MONDAY 18th JANUARY...Bring the Music
15 years 4 months ago
Hi Clan...
I read through all the tipsters choices for Race 5 on Monday at Arlington.
Everyone tips ALL ABLAZE as a sure thing...i luv it...I thought when i first viewed the forecast betting i'm gonna see the DJ at 8/10...but got a surprise to see him at 7/2 and whallah...i grabbed it and the stretch at 4/1 with my bookie.
No disrespect to All Ablaze, yes he won very easily last time out in a weakish MR73 handicap and is Arlington suited. Dj Detzky on the other hand ran a good second to Celtic Fire who was subsequently nominated for the Investec Derby on Met day but had excuses as he was coughing and i also feel that Khathi doesn't ride as vigorously as Warren Kennedy and ran on much too late in the Plate.
Most interesting of all is the fact that my filly Detzky's Darling beat All Ablaze by 2 lenghts 2 runs back and i watched the replays and she always held him by that margin when they took off for their finishing runs. For all your punters the transparent fact is that the DJ is easlily 6lenghts better than my filly and she showed some class to finish 5 lenghts off Tuvana Silva in the Lady's Bracelet.
So you work it out for yourselves...
Lastly we gave the DJ a small break, sorted the coughing out and especially chose this race as we got a 16 out of 16 draw in the minor feature on the 22nd January and elected to skip and run here which we hope to be a penalty kick...
I am a good loser and if we get beat by All Ablaze i will salute and admit he is definitely the better horse and also 6 lenghts better than my filly and a progressive sort. For the punters i feel the DJ is a serious bet on Monday...
I also thought the best value double for the day would be:
RACE 1: 6 - SLUMDOG OSCAR
RACE 5: 7 - DJ DETZKY
Let's hope for a clans double - GOOD LUCK DAVE...

FormStar's best bet on Moday: DJ DETZKY
Computed Odds: 13-10
Hope that's not a kiss of death for you. Best of Luck.
Another day like last two and it will be time to dust off the dart board.

JACK MILNER RXP -
There are not that many out-and-out stayers currently racing in South Africa but Arctic Fleece can count in their number. With this six-year-old it’s a case of the further they go, the better he performs.
Jacques Strydom’s runner has even won the Port Elizabeth Gold Cup, the only race in the country to be contested over 3600m, and did so by 5.25 lengths. Even losing three lengths at the start did little to faze him.
His last race was over 2700m at Fairview and drawn 15 out of 15, he came from off the pace to beat Colour Chart by 2.25 lengths. On this occasion he only lost two lengths at the start.
This afternoon at Arlington he contests Race 7, a MR 94 Handicap over 2800m, and despite a 61.5kg burden, the Saumarez gelding will take a lot of beating.
He has raced four times over the course and distance for one win and three places, and on the three occasions he has lost it has been by fewer than two lengths. On all of those occasions he lost loads of ground at the start.
It will be up to Francois Herholdt this time to ensure Arctic Fleece does not give too much start and that he gets going in time to snare his opposition.
The runner weighted to beat him is Alan Greeff’s American Idol. The Western Winter gelding was beaten 2.30 lengths last time and is now 4kg better off. However, one needs to take into account the ease with which Arctic Fleece took that race.
The best of the balance could be Mitchell Wiese’s Agri. He has performed well since being tried over longer distances and has also improved with gelding.
