I was just wondering. If they had marketed the P6 carryover effectively and if their estimates were even close than a R5 bar pool should not have been a problem?
the pool did not even reach 3.5 I don't think.
2 reasons.....nobody wants to play the P6 anymore or perhaps they have migrated to the open bet because they don't trust the tote anymore?
It was a disappointing pool for me.

The Pick 6 bet, according to the fact report has declined from 11.61% to 11.14% of total turnover year on year. The jackpot has also wobbled slightly and the PA has remained flat. The pick 3 bet has claimed 1.06% of turnover. Pick 3 only introduced quite recently. There has also been an 8.06% increase in soccer 6 turnover which is massive.
Quoted on the P regions.
Tommy the report is worth a read. I have posted the link to this report on this site somewhere

Tommy - The pools for Phum are never reaching their expected target. I am convinced that the Exotics pools for KZN meeting are larger. Hope there is a P6 pool carried over to GC asap to substantiate my point.

Wonder how the crowds at Kenilworth and Greyville this weekend compared with the Big T?

gauteng racing has been dead for many years now hibs, its season is very scattered it has no structure ,very few GENUINE EXTERNAL SPONSORS ...no atmosphere zero build up and in one word flipping boring and unattractive...the cape yards are not interested in going to gauteng and this means there features are regional affairs bar one or 2 raiders from natal...tradition takes decades to build but the powers that be have lost any tradition it once used to have ...to put it mildy racing in gauteng has been run into the ground by greedy money hungry short sighted people and it will never come right with its current structure and people that run the industry...

I went to the big T on Saturday. got there late, missed race 1 and 2. got there in time for PA. I parked infield, for the 1st time in a long time, fearing the " other ' parking lots would be FULL.
I was car # 7 parked in the INFIELD, that tells you something ! marketing ? what marketing ? I believe the Snaith brother is coming to Joburg to show us how to " rent a crowd " we sure could use it in Joburg. My guess is 10,000 max at the meeting...... but because there was NO entrance fee this time, we DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE ON COURSE.......... wer'e all just guessing !

eish, judging from the comments it doesn't look like the turnout was good...and this was despite the facts that entrance was free, Pierre Jourdaan was aiming for Triple Crown glory, and super cars were on display...not good at all!!

Did any of you cynics actually go to the course???? I *was* there. The grandstand was packed to the rafters. The cars were parked all the way to the training stables as the midfield was not opened. When the big race was parading, the crowd were about 7 deep around the parade ring. And... it drizzled on and off all day. I think that for a postponed meeting in inclement weather, it was not bad. There was a palpable buzz on course, and there were kids swarming everywhere. So tell me... why weren't you lot on course???

Don... as I started to take a few pics the zoom on my lens jammed
A good friend and fellow racing fan took a good few - we both looked up into the grandstand from the parade ring and were astounded by the number of people. I daresay, many of them probably arrived in taxis and buses. When Pierre Jourdan entered the parade ring a group of tradionally dressed ladies started ululating. The last time I felt this kind of tingle at Turffontein was when the first running of the current Summer Cup - known back then in 1999 as the Summer Handicap, when El Picha just headed Drum Star in a fantastic finish! There is good racing to be had here in Joburg, and the people doing the marketing did a fair job this year... but as I have said in the past, they should stop trying to do these amateur campaigns, and give the marketing reins over to a proper advertsing company like Hunt Lascaris or The Jupiter Room.... I mean who can forget the Vodacom advert where they play rugby in the Khalahari, or the current Boxer/ Toyota advert??? Which one of you is Stu??? Award winning proffessionals.... Wishful thinking I guess *sigh*
Do you remeber the days when OK sponsored the Gold Bowl? There were posters in every OK Bazaars in the country, scratch cards to win anything from a packet of jelly to a TV, competitions (which my Gran won, one year) where the prize was a trip to the Gold Bowl for two(flights, transfers, a night in the Milpark Holiday Inn) with a limo drive to the race course, a designer made outfit and of course fantastic hospitality at the race course. Every second television and newspaper advert was for the race, and they were in full colour - the horse in the picture was a dark bay with red and white checked blinkers... I can remember all of this because the campaign was excellent!!!
