It’s been going for at least 400 years with dodgy racehorse owners owning the best racehorses. That includes Dennis O’Kelly, the owner of Eclipse which is now the ancestor of 95% of modern thoroughbreds. He landed in the then debtors’ jails squandering money he stole to fund his gambling and booze (oh no). He introduced clients to his prostitute lover whom he met in jail and some stories say he had female clients himself (my goodness, he must have had something). He amassed a fortune from this.
