1954, CnC should remember that World Cup well. :D

The very first World Cup mascot belongs to England's "Willie". Here are the others :)

In case you didn't know, Brazil's mascot is Fuleco who is supposed to be an armadillo :)

Taken from www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y=2014/m=5/ne...s-to-go-2346405.html

The highest scoring world cup match of all time belongs to Austria v Switzerland 7-5 in 1954. The Swiss are one of two teams to have scored 5 goals but still lost, the other was Poland when Brazil beat them in 1938.

The highest scoring final was Brazil v Sweden 5-2 in 1958.

The fastest goal in world cup history, 11 seconds, goes to Hakan Sukur of Turkey against the Korea Republic in 2002.

Spain’s triumph at South Africa 2010 tipped the historical FIFA World Cup balance in favour of Europe, who go into Brazil 2014 with a 10-9 lead over South America.

Italy are Europe's champions with four world titles and Brazil are South America's with five.

I fancy Argentina to lift the cup after a poor performance in 2010. My outside bet will be Nigeria. taking 5/1 on them making the quarter finals and 20/1 on them getting to the semi's.

Brazil are worthy favourites but I think that they will bow out of the competition around the semi's.

See you in Brazil...(tu)

Not surprisingly the wearers of the No. 9 shirts have scored the most goals since numbers were printed on shirts in 1954. The No. 9's are followed in order of goals scored by 10,11, 7 and 8.

In 17 attempts Germany have failed only once to reach the quarter finals since 1934. www.fifa.com .
I know its only historically (and insensitive to the teams and forms of the respective groups) but that equates to a probability of 94%, or odds of 63/1000, that Germany will reach the quarter finals. Don't be falling over your friendly bookie to get a whopping 5/10. The bargain bet since Usain Bolt's 6/10!! :-)

A South American team has won every World Cup hosted in the Americas. Until South Africa 2010 a South American team had never lost a World Cup played outside of Europe.
