A bump from

Again for the new clansmen and also for those who may have a little Alz's. Apologies to the clansmen who may already know this but I have always found this fascinating:
1994, Shell Carribean Cup, Barbados vs Granada.
Barbados needed to win by two clear goals in order to advance to the next round. But there was a rule stating that should the game go to penalty kicks then the winner would be awarded a 2-0 victory.
With 5 mins to go Barbados were leading 2-1 but going out of the competition unless they won 3-1. They realised they were not going to score the 3rd goal against Granada and decided to score for Granada to make it 2-2 and then go to penalties! But Granada weren't so doff and they also decided to score against their own goals. The last 5 mins strikers were trying to shoot into their own goals, defenders were defending the opposition's goals and goalkeepers were wanting to throw the ball into their own nets.
The game did go to penalties which Barbados won and went through to the next round on a 2-0 victory.

The highest score ever recorded was in Ireland
Tipperery Rovers 212 Shamrock United 216
Note! Both teams were playing at home ( you cannie beat the Irish)
