The F.A.

It's supposed to mean football association, looking after the well being of the game.
Now one of its outdated rules is that there will be no further punishment for a player if
the referee states that he saw the incident.
In the Diego Costa stamping incident against Liverpool, the ref stated that he missed the incident. So it was looked at by the panel and Costa was deservedly banned.

Referee Martin Atkinson states that he saw both tackles by Burnleys Ashley Barnes, therefor no further punishment will be handed out.

I know the games about opinions, but surely he is the only person who thinks that the tackle on Matic was not a brutal assault on another player.
If a top ref can't see that, then surely he's in the wrong job.

Cahill when he kicked Kane in the back when Kane was on the ground
Wilshire when he head butted Fellani in the chest right in front of the ref
Verthongan when he had both his hands around a Sheffield Utds players neck

just three that I can think off and they all went unpunished.

That's because of this stupid rule,if ref says he's seen it,then it's case closed.

crazy, remember when Rooney elbowed that Wigan player and the ref did not see it. It went to the FA and they too did not see it but it was as broad as daylight.

Amazing that the ref admitted he saw the tackle and did nothing. Wonder what his explanation was. I foresee that refs are now going to overcompensate for their recent errors and punish even the slightest tackles. We can also expect some soft penalties too.

He had a perfect position to see it,as did the ref in Southampton v Liverpool game regarding some blatant penalties.
I'm afraid to say the best refs are in other countries.

" Unbelievable! Incredible! Incomprehensible! Lewandoski crosses from the left - four Borussia players offside - and it ping pongs around a bit before breaking to Santana - offside again - who taps in from a yard. What were those Scottish officials thinking there? "

" As soon as Santana poked in, Craig Thompson was looking to his assistant, because, he like me,was probably 99% sure Santana was offside", write Christopher Burke. " But if your assistant says it's good, what can you do?"

Borussia Dortmund vs Malaga F.C. Tuesday 9th April 2013.

Malaga had one Manuel Pelligrini as the coach when they were denied a Champions League final against Bayern Munich by horrendous officiating.

I fear Man City and Pelligrini have to face 15 on the field Tues evening when hosting Barcelona F.C. Referees and officials in Europe can make and break a team in split-seconds and it seems that no Middle-East owned club is likely to win Champions League for a long long time to come. The general consensus? They have too much money and shouldn't be getting more!

I'm afraid to say the best refs are in other countries.

The English refs think that the premier league is all about them. Every single weekend we are talking about the refs and not the actual match. Just this last weekend for example

Palace v Arsenal. the Arsenal penalty was a foul committed outside the box and the second goal was offside.

Chelsea v Burnley well documented

Southampton v Liverpool. The ref missed at least 2 clear cut penalties

Spurs v WHU the Spurs penalty was 50/50 then when Kane took it and missed the ref should have blown for full time but he let play go on in order for Kane to score the rebound. There were 4 minutes injury time. When the kick was awarded time was up. The law states that you must allow the kick to be taken. The ref bottled it by allowing the play to carry on after the kick

They need to bring replays into it. It took 10 years of pestering FIFA to allow goal line technology and all the so called experts said that it would spoil the flow of the game. It has enhanced the game. They should have a TV ref who is wired up to the ref. It will stop all arguments (but then the media will hate it because there will be nothing to talk/write about except the actual football). Tennis, rugby and cricket has benefited from the use of it. There is nothing worse than been a fan and your team has lost because of an incompetent ref.
