Tongaat Mall Disaster
9 years 9 months ago
Does anyone know what the latest developments are?
Heard whispers that it will be rebuilt.Must be true. The same guy is building flats and houses in the Phoenix area. After the mall saga all residential building in the Phoenix area stopped.A few weeks ago they started stripping and building on every bit of free land they can find.Must have 'donated' a big total to the cANCer.
Just a sad state of affairs, especially since there is a moratorium on municipal land in kzn.In other words only Jay Singh is entitled to buy and build on any municipal land.I am told that he doesn't need to sell these flats, just lease at a reasonable price to low, middle income people. The rentals range from R1800 to R2700 pm.He has built close on 3000 flats only in kzn.Houses are sold at 450k cash only and built from materials made at his precast /brick factory. The cANCer has definitely spread. If that's not BEE working for the ruling party then I don't know what is.sorry for going off topic but this kind of happenings pisses me off.

Grew up in Tongaat and still go home a few times a week...
Mall has been bought and assume it will be completed (with necessary fixes) by new developer...Tongaat is a dying town though as most people would rather go to Ballito (another huge mall being built) or Gateway to do their shopping so don't know what the prospects are of the mall in Tongaat being a great success...
And I know of a few people who mentioned that they will never set foot in the mall if / when completed due to the deaths that occurred...I, also, will not set foot in the mall if completed...
Long history regarding JS, Ethekwini and the ANC...ran the bus service into the ground and under MS, it was bought back from him at a profit !! Where the profit ended up is not hard to guess...see the shiny new refurbished provincial headquarters of the ANC amongst other places...
And the history of shoddy housing developments being rewarded is only rivalled by those handed to Shawn Mpisane under s36...
Too early on a Saturday morning for a rant so will stop now but need to attach a PDF of an investigation report I stumbled upon...interesting reading...
