I think its sad that South Africa does not have a culture of poppy day probably since the Nats came into power in the late '40's. Like most other countries, they seem to look on it as a "British colonial" thing. Growing up in the then Rhodesia, poppy day and armistice day was a big thing. Nowadays, poppy day honours the fallen not just for the 1st World War but for all wars.
