Mad Mike Hoare dies

An anti-communist who was dubbed by the East Germans as “mad”.
Tshombe, subsequent president of the Congo in the early 60’s recruited him and his team “The Wild Geese” to take out Tshombe’s communist backed enemies which they did.
However, Hoare became a laughing stock following a failed coup in the Seychelles in 1981. One of his mercenaries went into the wrong queue at the airport, had an argument with an official, then their bags were checked in which they found a dismantled AK47. Hoare and his mercenaries commandeered an Air India flight to South Africa.
The movie “The Wild Geese”, starring Richard Burton, was largely based on Hoare.
