I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Are there any tips you can give me if you have had the same issues.

Thanks all

Mt father-in-law was diagnosed late in life - probably when he was about 68 or so(If you saw him you would not believe it as he is the perfect weight and walks upwards of 6km every day for decades) - He has bouts of high sugar ONLY when he does not follow his diet or inject properly - I would say from what I've seen(I have friends who also have it - one who was diagnosed at 17) is don't cheat - Listen to your doctor and follow the nutritional guidelines and all will be well - The only time he gets into any type of trouble is when he has some sort of stressor in his life and he breaks the rules - He also does not eat at regular times which causes swings in the sugar balance - Not a death sentence by any means - My mate who contracted at 17is now almost 50 and is far healthier than I am - Hope it goes well and research the Mediterranean Diet which seems to be the gold standard for living with this disease.

.....in the mid 1980's I was seconded to the local office of a major Italian pharmaceutical company who imported a product called Minidiab that worked very well....not sure who handles this product here now as there were buy outs and mergers with pharma companies....

What Minidiab does

Minidiab is used in addition to diet
and exercise to control blood sugar in
patients with Type II diabetes
mellitus. This type of diabetes is also
known as non-insulin-dependent
diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or
maturity onset diabetes.
Minidiab is used when diet and
exercise are not enough to control
blood sugar (glucose). Minidiab can
be used alone, or together with
insulin or other medicines for
treating diabetes.
How Minidiab works
Minidiab belongs to a group of
medicines called sulphonylureas.
These medicines lower high blood
glucose by increasing the amount of
insulin produced by your pancreas.
If your blood glucose is not properly
controlled, you may experience
hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose)
or hyperglycaemia (high blood
glucose). High blood glucose can
lead to serious problems with your
heart, eyes, circulation or kidneys.
Hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose)
can occur suddenly.

Ask your doctor but the okes these days never have enough experience in pharma drugs....

PK, the fact that you researching how to deal with it, bodes well for you. It indicates that you intend taking it seriously. Which you should. Most people diagnosed with it, don't take it seriously. Thats where the complications come in.

Follow a good diet, avoiding sugar AND simple carbs, and exercise, and not only will you be fine, but could actually not require medication (I know of a guy who achieved this).

All the best!

Hi and Diabetes runs high in my family with siblings and they are on medication like Metformin and Insulin and they check their sugar levels with the little meter you can get at the pharmacy.
Anything over 10 at random test level can be a bit high.
Normally the GTT is the fasting test that gives an accurate reading for diagnosing the condition.

You can use the following natural supplements ,they are safe to use, in addition to your chronic medication.
Bitter Gourd Powder or Karela Powder.
Morninga Leaf Powder
Bay Leaf Tea. Buy the dry bay leaves and boil in a pot of water for 10mins.
Let cool and drink twice daily. Keep in the fridge.
I use the Moringa Leaf Powder and Bay Leaf Tea daily.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply. I am on my chronic meds and bought myself a treadmill. I have in the last month cheated 3 times. I am happy to say though that my initial reading was 19....but since bought a machine to test my levels....and it was 4.4, 6.4, 4.3 and 7.0. I am quite chuffed with myself and I have lost nearly 10kgs.

@Magi, lol, no, that is not what I'm implying at all.

Although......I'm pretty sure my grammar was correct there....with the commas? Although, English language and comprehension was many moons ago.

I'll take it on the chin if it is grammatically incorrect, and say, " Thank you!"
