They do recommend that this is the best form of defense but can cause damage to fingers .

I worked as a tour guide out of Kununurra. When I arrived the first thing my new boss told me was that where I would be lodging there are 100s of crocs residing in the river. Some salties sea water crocs, which made themselves up the river but mostly freshies, fresh water crocs, who were “harmless” He told me that there was a resident croc who slept and basically spent most of his time by the boat which we would take tourists out on.The boat was out of the water for maintenance prior to the season commencing. You have two seasons there wet and dry and when it’s wet it’s wet so no good for tourism. Anyway he said that this particular croc was a cheeky bugger and if he were to chase me run, run fast and in a zig zag pattern. Yeah sure thing I said that thing won’t out run me. A couple of days later low and behold this thing chased me. I did as I was told and made it back the 50 yards back indoors. I have great respect for these creatures and will never keep my eye off them when in an area located by them.
