NOT BY CHOICE
2 years 2 months ago
On Tuesday we learnt from my daughter that there was an opportunity for my son-in law in New Zealand in his sphere
of Engineering.
In fact I was informed that there is an acute shortage in that field of work.
This has been on the cards for some time and it is something we are not looking forward to,but they have my grandson and want to give him a future and a decent life for themselves.
My son has been in England since 2006.He is well established with his own company and has his wife and my younger grandson. They live 3kms from .
Ascot racecourse.
If you said come back to SA tomorrow. His reply would be why can't I come back tonight.
He loves this country but he can't.
I was standing in the 10 items only queue in Spar this afternoon and got talking to a very nice couple, probably in their early 30's and they were buying a few things for a party this evening .
Reason was they were flying out to Australia tomorrow!
So soon we will just be my wife and I and Charlie.(Top left hand picture.)
Nobody is leaving by choice.

I went to Aus to visit my sisters November last. What I like to do in the flight is to stand up and look behind me so that I can observe the faces and demographics of the passengers. Can I say they were all about 98% white and most of whom were elderly and very elderly, like myself and older and I am now 64yo. My thoughts were that they were all going to visit family particularly their children and grandchildren. The old lady whom I sat next to was going to visit her great grand son. Sad.

.....I have a brother in Ozz and a sister in the UK....only my older sister is still here but they are looking to retire in Spain....I am out of sorts in most other countries and have travelled to many....was quite taken with Thailand and started making enquiries ......a year before the Tsunami....:S
.....many acquaintances in my area have over the past 3 years sold property uprooted and left for Botswana, New Zealand, Malta, UK and Canada a spectrum of folks, young, middle aged and geriatric.....I am currently making plans to liquidate my property here near ESKOM HO as I feel that this will become a hotspot area to be targeted by political protesters which may spiral out of control and cause total mayhem....but will not be leaving the country.....

We are very happy in Italy .... but if conditions improved in South Africa we would be back at the drop of a hat... main reasons being our children and grandchildren. South Africa is a beautiful, but dysfunctional, country and in my opinion in a 'death' spiral. If the ZAR goes to 23/1 to the dollar the Zim hyperinflation starts becoming a reality and then political and civil unrest also becomes a factor.
We are currently spending a few weeks in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. This is a poor country but the lights stay on and it is peaceful....
