Earlier this afternoon, the Stewards of the Horse Racing Division inquired into the handling of Transonic (4th race - 32nd meeting). Following this, jockey Jose de Souza has been suspended for one year.
He has been sanctioned under Rule 207 (a), which states: “When riding in a race, a jockey shall allow his horse to run on its merits. When a jockey contravenes this provision, the jockey shall commit an offence and shall be liable to a suspension or disqualification not exceeding 5 years, and to a fine of not less than 50,000 rupees and not exceeding 1 million rupees”.

The investigation into Jose De Souza's ride on Samraj Mahadia's resident, Transonic, at the start of the 4th race (32nd day) kept the Commissioners' room spellbound on Tuesday. After hearing the various arguments, the Horse Racing Division gave the Brazilian rider a heavy suspension of one year.

De Souza was charged under Rule 207(a) of the Rules Of Racing. This section states that a jockey must allow his horse to run on his merit. He pleaded not guilty, but the board still found him guilty under this settlement and at the end of the investigation, he was advised of his right to appeal against the sentence. Thus, it may be that the jockey contests this sanction in order to be able to end the season.

Namely that Transonic had failed by a thread behind his stablemate, Massimo, last Saturday. After this event, which caused a lot of ink to flow, De Souza was forced by the Racing Stewards to 'step down', not only for the rest of the day, but also for the weekend.
