Dave,
Any chance you can get Mr Moodley to explain the weight structure for this graduation plate.

I've worked out that it is a cross between a traditional graduation plate and an allowance plate, where a base weight is set according to number of races won and 0.5 kgs is deducted for each run since the horse last earned a stakes cheque. I've noticed one or two novice and graduation races of this type have popped up recently, this one is not the first, and it is not an exclusively a Western Cape thing.
I'm all in favour of new and varied race types, so I'm happy to have this as long as such races don't take over completely from "regular" novice and graduation plates,

Ok,Matthew,thanks.
Maybe it should at least be termed a Graduation/Allowance plate, and published as such in the form guides.

Isn't this Fan-f***-tastic?
Every year I get milked to pay for the same colours I had the year before and update my email address, about R1700, for which I receive no value except to keep on paying, and the #$%^& can't send me a rule update as to what new race conditions there are for my nags.
Must be lovely to have a 'captive' customer base!

Hi Dave,
The race programmers have introduced Novice & Graduation Plate races with allowances. The starting weights are 2,0kgs higher than the standard and a horse gets 1/2kg off for each unplaced run that was not in a Listed or Graded race up to a maximum of 3.0kg. Me ‘n You is a 2 x winner carrying 60.0kg. Placed second in its last therefore no allowance. Divine Silver is a 2 x winner with 1 unplaced run therefore carries 0.5kg less.
Hope this explains.

Hi Dave
Please see race conditions of race 7 at Durbanville today below :-
GRADUATION PLATE (F & M)
For One and Two time Winners and Maidens
Maidens . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55,0 kg
One time winners. . . . . . . . . 57,5 kg
Two time winners. . . . . . . . . 60,0 kg
A 0,5 kg allowance shall be given to runners, at the time of
publication of weights, for each unplaced start since a horse was
placed (1st to 4th), except for starts in Graded and Listed races, up to
a maximum allowance of 3 kg.
The reason both we and Gold Circle introduced a weight allowance for unplaced runs into these Progress, Graduation and Novice Plates was to try and attract better field sizes. Historically these races have tended to attract small fields due to the weight conditions being in the favour of the better type horses, often even resulting in the races being cancelled due to paucity of runners. We believe this minor tweak to the conditions of the race will give us a better chance of filling the fields whilst still favoring the better type of horse.
Kind regards
Patrick

I'm thrilled that GC and P are trying different and exciting things to make racing more fair and more exciting, but I can't help agreeing with Jack here. Why don't they send out a press release to owners, trainers and indeed the punters to let us know and debate the fact before they actually have an event of this nature? we clearly cannot do or say anything about the implementation, because, lets be fair....we cannot do or say anything about anything where racing SA is concerned, but surely it would help your cause by informing people of whats going on?
If I had a little bit of money left and I was forced to bet on a race where the conditions were foreign to me or just go and buy chappies, then I guess I would be blowing bubbles out my a#$ for the next three weeks!!!
Racing admin has now degenerated past mediocrity and has hit an all time low.......USELESS in every sense of the word!
(....and yes boys, I think I can do better!!!!)
