Vaal - Tuesday

All the best with your Darling tomorrow RAD. I hope she runs well on the sand. The distance is certainly right up her alley!
Is she relocating to Heather or just raiding for Gavin?

I think there is another clan member with a runner tomorrow (seem to remember discussions last week) but I cannot for the life of me remember!
Good luck to all who has a runner anyway!

Need some help from Rad.The race is a conditions race and her rating is a grass rating....any clues as to how she handles sand at home, will be a great help.

Hi clan...

Two reasons we have the filly up here...

Firstly no races in PE for fillies when their merit rating hits 85 plus...with the first propable race only in November and by that i mean in trip and class...other than small features.

Secondly the filly works "superbly" on the sand back home and she should feature well and give a good account of herself keeping in mind we are bumping a decent field. We chose the race as a sharpener as she will be aimed at the Sandy Beach Stakes on the 28th of August as well as the support feature on Emerald Cup day for fillies and mares.

She races for Gavin as i twisted his arm to bring her up here and Heather is taking care of her for Gavin. She arrived Saturday morning, took the long trip well and is prepared the same DJ was for his run in Natal...Condition wise she will bring her "A" game to the course and i will include her in all bets. Only the Vaal sand and draw is a concern but as i stated she worked and enjoyed the sand very much in PE. I honestly hope for a decent run as she's well prepared and the back problem sorted...honestly hope for good run...

Also include Racey Lacey in race 1 in all bets...quick filly.
Ice Crusher in race 8 also include in all bets.although bit short...

Happy punting...

Rad - programming in E/Cape is becoming a big problem. Having had a chat to a RA director last week, he mentioned this is the most profitable racing centre in RSA. So given this, why not cut at the other centres (where turnovers are poor) and stage more racing in the E/Cape. The horse population in E/Cape is also huge - just look at the field sizes.

Agree Homer...had same chat with trainer...trying their very best to get more meetings and races...will come through eventually especially with the fact that a lot of owners send well bred horses [babies] to start their careers in PE. In recent years horses that actually started their careers in PE did well elsewhere in SA and abroad so the stock their isn't bad any more. Bold Silvano was a R300 000 purchase and some of the PE trainers bought some decent, expensive stock on the past sale - have look at results on TBA website...

PE getting very competative and not just centre for off form highveld, West Cape and Natal horses. Also it is the most profitable centre and better turnovers than some other centres and called the "flagship" of Phumelela. Looking at the Derby and Algoa Cup it has produced some good champions and is well sponsored and good turn outs. Hopefully the Vaal sand and PE racing become better and better...Hope RA and Phumelela build on this recipe as i can't ever see Turffies produce the goods...

Dave...for R300 - R100 place treble = 150/1 - for R100 win double = 300/1 & for R100 win treble [8000/1] bookie only gives max 3000/1. Worth it for R300. We are allowed to maybe get lucky once in a year...it's only horsies...enjoy - X(

Atonement's one run on sand should make her too good for that bunch of perennial maidens. Candy Cotton should win easily if she shows her best form on the sand, Gates Of Fortune has gone up quite a lot in the MR for his last win but could follow up anyway, while Pirsmatic Fire won her maiden well when trying the sand and could be hard to beat off a 71 mark on her handicap debut.

Nice racing on the sand today; some thoughts:

R1: Mina Salaam very well bred; should be right there
R2: Weak field; Paintyourface well beaten in debut, but others have come from that race to win; nice place bet imo
R3: Atonement tough to beat
R4: Starstruck very well treated here; only penalised 3 points for her last win and probably better over the 1600; Rambo's Belle is in form and could be 2nd best
R5: Competitive, but I think Jet Tycoon is the one to beat and Boy oh Boy (pity abt the draw) is good value at 12/1
R6: Competitve fillies race and only Nossa Joia seems unlikely to win here - all the others should be considerer imo
R7: I liked Resume, but she is scratched; not much between Even Enchanted and Najah and they could fight it out - Wild Swan in race one could give us an indication on how well (or not) Prismatic Fire has been handicapped
R8; Gates of Fortune should be too good here if he can repeat his last run; if he flops just about anything could benefit - include the Binda coupling in larger P6's
