If I may: (apologies for taking the bait)
Why do children on the school-ground call each other names?
Why do racing journos get upset with comments of the American, Barry Irwin?
Why did Barry Irwin bother with becoming embroiled in mudslinging?
Why do posters on CP's site follow blindly and accuse BI of American nationalist arrogance then rant on with South African nationalism of their own?
Why can't someone have an opinion and then change their minds?
Why can't we all have our own opinion on matters but not let this impact on our relationships when debating issues?
Why can I not be your friend if I do not agree with you?
Why is ego more important or bigger than racing?
Why does Andrew Bon think that its the school you are from that matters. Are we less of a person for not having a silver spoon up are ass?
Why do we dedicate time to assassinate character?
Why do we lose focus on what is important in racing?
Why were the same posters accused of forming a circle and tossing now on the same side with the "enemy", taking dead aim at someone who cannot single handedly change the status of racing woes, whatever his views may be?
Why is ABC still going, what happened to the Death Knell? I was around when Cuckoo, Catsmug Adios Bookies and a few others and I were remaining soldiers keeping this site and its postings going whilst many others were too afraid to be associated with ABC?
Why do people quickly switch allegiances, surely allegiances are quickly reversed?
Why does loyalty and friendship mean so little today?
and
Why did America support Bin Laden only to have him turn on them?
Why does the wolf wear sheep's clothing?
EGO!!!!!!
The answers are not this simple but a theory is that we are all guilty of a bit of arrogance. We know it all and write it on here, there and everywhere in the hope that someone will respond and massage our own egos. (me and you included). Im doing it now. We thrive on it.
You see Youngstar and anyone who cares to read this, for me racing is not about ego stroking. It is not about what I can get out of anybody. I have noticed that this game is very much about expectations and the perception of what someone can do for you. Often in my brief travels into racing circles, I sense that people think I want something from them. I don’t. I want to enjoy the game and spend the money I work hard for on entertaining myself in this “Sport of Kings”. I want to share my enjoyment and love for the game with like minded people. Ego’s mean nothing to me and no I don’t want anything from anyone. Racing is not a personal playground for a certain clique. It belongs to all who invest their hard earned cash into it. From the R6.00 tote punter to the wealthiest owners and breeders.
If these detractors followed SA politics, they would have learned one thing, an attack on a leader will only galvanise their supporters behind that leader.
Please Cat and friends let it go. Surely your energies are better spent on making a real difference in racing. Discrediting individuals can surely not increase stake pots, sort out the phantom Ausie punter or sort out the real issues in racing. Surely the personal vendetta with Scotia is not more important than the many other racing issues you raise, so important that it deserves to be the highest point of order on your site? For me highlighting ABC and its proprietor apparent shortcomings only makes light of the real issues you raise. Let it go.
Flaimgrockspider I battle to understand your hatred for ABC that you have so eloquently displayed in your email. Your hatred was once upon a time aimed at your new found friends where insults were traded under the banner of ABC. Is it the name you hate or the fact that the site lives or the fact that this site was not swallowed up by your own? Or is it that some can see through "Forum Kings". Surely your love for the game is greater than your hatred for ABC?
Please can we all just let it go. Our differences divide us but we unite in the love for this game. The sideshow is entertaining but does nothing for the credibility of racing and people involved in it. How can I encourage new blood to this crap, a bloodbath of insults and a total disregard for the daily toils of a person in racing.

Thank you Al for another excellent post and to all other members of the Clan for making great contributions, I feel so proud of what the Clan has done for SA racing, maybe ignored at times but always viewed.

I don't think that the more serious issues are ignored nearly as much as they would like to pretend. If questions are sensible, the ones that they are ignoring will be the ones causing most concern!

In amongst the expected tantrum(some never learn) lies the essence of the problems in racing and lie at the heart of all the moaning that goes on......in the "misdirected " E-mail ,in writing ,the words ..."to avoid unnecessary publicity,it was decided not to make any statement at the Equus awards."
Nor,by their own admission, did they tell the entrants/participants.
All this is polite bullshit for"lets ignore the problem and maybe it/they will go away"
Sad that,in an industry that has an ongoing struggle to dispel perceptions of dishonesty, we have officialdom that makes a habit of practising deception.

Very good post Al, but I have to disagree about the 'letting it go' part; nothing has ever been solved by 'letting go'; yes it is a great pity that the 'real issues' (and we all know what these are) are being overshadowed by personal differences. Imo, these 'disagreements' should be discussed by the factions involved - find a solution or at least some common ground and then we can all direct our energies at trying to solve the 'real issues'. Nothing is gained by the on-going war of words - and in my view this 'sideshow' has lost it's entertainment value some time ago.

It is alarming that, whilst most will contend that their main concern is racing, when a situation arises where it is conceded(in writing), that there was a cover up,forumites don't celebrate a small gain, collectively, but turn on each other,as usual.
The strategy of divide and rule seems to work so well.

Frodo you have a very good point we do have "real issues" and they get pushed aside with all this crap which is time consuming, pointless and bad for the blood pressue
