Strike while the iron is hot

SA presently has thousands of frustrated poker players waiting to see what happens with Piggs.Some will find other places to play,but plenty will have gambling rands burning holes in their pockets.Will racing do anything to use the opportunity to get some of them interested in racing.I doubt it.
This is a time to advertise(and not on Tellytrack which is preaching to the converted) the product,and I would suggest giving examples of the various pools(and of some of the payouts) available a) by race and also b) by meeting ie. PA,P6 and Jackpot. Those pools will sound attractive to a large amount of the players that play in the cheaper poker tournaments and play one tournament for hours trying to win a share of anything between R1000 & R15000.

I totally agree that racing should be launching a campaign that is unashamedly aimed at poker players. There is a huge pool of intiated gamblers who will be looking for an alternative outlet.

One of the great poker concepts that I have seen, is the " free roll" tournement. This gives players the opportunity to win cash prizes or entry into big tournements with no capital investment. Obviously this is a great way to groom future players, as they become accustomed to the game, without capital risk.

Would it not be possible to organise a raceing "free roll" competition. Winners of the regional competitions ( KZN, Cape, Gauteng etc) could go into a National play off where the winners walk away with prize money that grabs people attention.
