Scotia on the financial tsunami
14 years 9 months ago
Good evening all and its been a rather interesting week on the forum, however the main story in SA is the on going strikes.
We hit a high as a Nation during the World Cup but I would guess the recent turmoil between Government and employees, Motor Industry etc, must be causing havoc to the financial core of the country.
I am no economist but would guess when we do get back to "normal" the Rand will take a pounding against International currencies.
So what can we do against this Financial Tsunami that will hit soon? I suggest have a drink, have a punt and hope you don't get washed away.
The Forum is going well, record hits last month (one day alone over 71,000 and 836 unique visitors), record posts, great topics and great contributions.
I have sent emails and links to the RA and Phumelela in connection with some of the content and would very much appreciate some interaction for the good of the sport going forward.
The forum can be light at times and heavy at others and providing we keep a good balance of humour and burning issues we will continue to have a winning formula and thanks again to you all for your contributions.
I am sure you are aware but apart from the direct post on the site this circular gets sent to many emails and bearing this in mind I will use this to highlight various topics from the current week.
"A Final Call For Change", "So They Want More Tax", "Basic Info For UK Racing", "Vaal Race 4 Loaded Wrong Way", "Open Bet" "VAT" and many, many more
It could also be a consideration to have a link via electronic media between the authorities and the forum posters/customers? I have requested a meeting but all I am really trying to achieve is some answers and hope for a positive response?
I received this during the week..
What you say about others says a lot about you
Your perceptions of others reveal a lot about your own personality, according to a recent study. The study was published in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
By asking participants to each rate positive and negative characteristics of just three people, researchers from Wake Forest University in the US were able to find out important information about the rater's well-being, mental health, social attitudes and how they were judged by others.
The findings suggest a person's tendency to describe others in positive terms is an important indicator of the positivity of the person's own personality traits. The researchers found particularly strong associations between positively judging others and how enthusiastic, happy, kind-hearted, courteous, emotionally stable and capable a person describes himself or herself and is described by others.
"Seeing others positively reveals our own positive traits," said Dustin Wood, assistant professor of psychology at Wake Forest and lead author of the study.
The study also found that how positively you see other people shows how satisfied you are with your own life, and how much you are liked by others.
In turn, negative perceptions of others are linked to higher levels of narcissism and antisocial behaviour.
"A huge suite of negative personality traits are associated with viewing others negatively," Wood says. "The simple tendency to see people negatively indicates a greater likelihood of depression and various personality disorders."
A negative evaluation of someone else could mean the rater has negative personality traits, or that he or she is unhappy, disagreeable or neurotic.
This study suggests that asking someone to rate the personality of a colleague or acquaintance could be a way of learning something about the person providing the description.
strong>As far as punting:
The Emerald Cup at the end of the Month should be a cracker...............Early Entries Emerald Cup
On the overseas markets this weekend should see Rip Van Winkle win the Champion Stakes in Ireland 7/10, plus on the same day at Haydock where Starspangledbanner tops the boards for the Sprint Cup at 2/1.
On the 11th at Doncaster is the St Leger and Rewilding remains around 2/1 to lift the third leg of the triple crown.
The 25th at Ascot should see Canford Cliffs collect the Queen Elizabeth Stakes 1/1 and if RVW does not appear the evens should be a steal.
Canford Cliffs edges our Rip Van Winkle
The ARC is on the 3rd of Oct and Fame and Glory keeps his position at the top of the boards at around 4/1 and looking a bit further forward to the Breeders Cup on Nov 6th, it might be worthwhile taking a bit 5/1 on the superstar Zenyatta.
Zenyatta
The jumps will also be back soon so don't forget Kauto Star on Boxing Day to pay for xmas lunch.
Plus plenty soccer, rugby and many other sporting events to have a wee punt on.
Good punting and may your God be with you.

At least your financial breakdown was not caused by a Government who did not know its arse from its elbow and by the greed of a few speculators and a couple of fat cat slim ball bankers.

Come back Chicken we need your vote!
Back to racing:
STAN JAMES are offering 14-1 that Aidan O'Brien makes a clean sweep of all three of Saturday's Group 1 contests, but also go 9-4 that the Ballydoyle trainer draws a blank.
O'Brien has market leader Starspangledbanner in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock, odds-on favourite Rip Van Winkle in the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, and 3-1 chance Lillie Langtry in the Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes on the same card.
Stan James spokesman Charlie McCann said: "O'Brien saddles three in the Irish Champion Stakes including the odds on favourite Rip Van Winkle and with the ground drying out all the time at Haydock Starspangledbanner looks sure to go off a short price for the Betfred Sprint Cup.
"Lillie Langtry disappointed in the Falmouth last time but she looked top class in the Coronation Stakes previously and the 14-1 we are offering for the O'Brien Group 1 hat-trick could look a big price by the time Rip Van Winkle, Cape Blanco and Beethoven are on the way to post for the Irish Champion."
Starspangledbanner was cut to 7-4 (from 9-4) by Ladbrokes for the Betfred Sprint Cup on Thursday.
Spokesman David Williams said: "Now that Starspangledbanner has been given the green light for Haydock, punters have taken the bait and forced his price into 7-4."
The participation of Workforce in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe has yet to be set in stone but the Investec Derby winner has attracted support, with Victor Chandler shortening his price to 8-1 (from 10) for the Longchamp contest.

What amaze me is the lack of cntrol by the Gambling board over the BANKING INDUSTRY.
Why are FX departments in banks excluded from having to aquire bookmakers licences.
let me explain.
All investment banks have a FOREX DEPARTMENT or FX
they all trade exotics amongst other entities....on their MUREX, SUMMIT or WALLSTREET SYSTEM platforms
within the exotics platform they have a trading strategy called BINARY TRADING.
BINARY comes from the BINARY number systems used in computer systems.....0 an 1...
Hence the trading strategy has only two outcomes.....all (1) or nothing (0)...
but in the boardroom they cannot say....we trade on a all or nothing strategy...hence the name - BINARY TRADING...
BINARY TRADING -
you decide CHELSEA is going to win 6 - 0
WILLIAM HILL offers a 33/1 option on that 6 - 0 outcome
you buy the option for 10 pounds - 330/10
should CHELSEA win 6 - 0 .........your option is payed out (ALL)...Should CHELSEA win 5 - 0....your option does not pay out (NOTHING)
apply this to shares .........SASOL will trade above R400 by 31 december 2010....option will cost you 40/1
