Jonny Mudball all the rage for Ayr Gold Cup

JONNY MUDBALL was the major mover in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup market with one firm describing him as the "best backed horse of the day" following Thursday's draw in which he was allotted stall 25 of 27.

The Tom Dascombe-trained four-year-old, who is owned by Tottenham Hotspur player Jonathan Woodgate, will be bidding for compensation in Saturday's prestigious sprint handicap, having been narrowly denied in the Bluesq.com Stewards' Cup at Goodwood in July.

The Ayr Gold Cup sponsors clipped him to 12-1 (from 14), but it was Ladbrokes, along with Victor Chandler, who reported the biggest move.

The pair made him a 10-1 chance (from 14) and Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said: "The lack of rain and breezy forecast should ensure Jonny Mudball gets his [favoured good] ground.

"With a high draw that seems to be favourable, he's easily the best backed horse of the day."

Hills also trimmed Victoire De Lyphar a point to 8-1 as he attempts to give race specialist David Nicholls a sixth win in the Ayr Gold Cup, while they quoted Signor Peltro at 25-1 (from 28). VC went 20-1 (from 25) about him.

Favourite Poet's Place was the last name to be drawn from the hat and his connections had to settle with stall 12. But Jim Goldie, trainer of 8-1 second favourite Hawkeyethenoo, was able to select his favoured middle berth - stall 16.

Other moves saw the John Gosden-trained Nationalism cement his position at the head of the betting for the Totesport.com Cambridgeshire on October 2.

Paddy Power made him their 15-2 favourite (from 10) and Hills offered 8-1 (from 9).

Khalid Abdullah has already had a season to remember and there was more support for his Investec Derby winner Workforce for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

VC went 11-2 (from 13-2), while the same firm cut the promising Frankel - also owned by Abdullah - to 9-1 (from 10) for the 2,000 Guineas. Hills made him 10-1 (from 12) for the Derby.

Some good racing in the UK today with a group3 `arc trial` at Newbury where Rainbow Peak can take a bit of beating. Also Delegator makes his belated return from Injury in the Listed race(massive class drop),but as listed races goes it looks a very tricky seasonal debut for him and i would just watch as he has bigger fish to fry at the end of the season...

Its about time for the end of season Maidens at Newmarket and time to start dusting of the notebook for next seasons ten to follow. They are also staging a sales race today worth £100k and Khor Speed
looks the pick of the day under Cumani`s groom Fallon.

All my eggs onto Sergant Ablett at Newbury today. The horse ran green last time in its only run and woke up in the last furlong and won well. 4/1 is a decent offer.

Ayr
R1 - Sinadinou comes down in class, drawn down the inside which I presume might be the better going??
R3 - Hanagan on Opening Nite. some value around the 10's

Newmarket
Interesting to see Fallon riding for Gadolphin
R2 - Khawlah
R7 - Fulgur

Newbury
R2 - Traffic Guard
R7 - Sharaayeen
