ARE THE NOTEPADS OUT???????????????????????

The much anticipated meeting on Thursday, between the RA and trainers that is to take place in PE,to discuss another possible closure of another racetrack, will be followed with huge intrest.I hope the notepads are out when Larry W.rocks up as the "ANGEL OF DEATH''with the latest blow to SA racing.I believe that some of the trainers are quite excited,as talk of a new all weather track is part of the agenda.Lets hope that this meeting will be positive and not full of empty promises,as we have experienced.Boys ask all the questions as you have seen whats happened in Gauteng, plenty of empty promises as we lost two great tracks.

If they smart in PE,they will ensure that the new track is in place before any sale....If they rely on promises I would guess they F%^$&#D.

There's a good question.

Maybe not for weather, but an alternative surface might suit other horses? It would get the region extra racehorses (if that's what they need to be more profitable).

I must admit that it makes a lot of economic sense if all racing,in any centre could share buildings and equipment, but in Jhb, for instance ,it would need zero based planning.

Imagine a piece of land large enough, with buildings consisting of resturants, commentary boxes etc. that overlook both sides(revolving restuarants have been around for ages) you could have at least 4 tracks on one site(FFS not Turffies though). The economies of scale would be enormous,I would think.

I don't know what the plans are but if Gauteng is any indication. i would only agree on the closure going ahead once all the promised plans are completed at the other course.

Otherwise they will end up with a watered down version of the original agreement.

I would also force a 5 year plan on meeting per season. Not subject to anything.

They will save a bomb on horse cartage fees so where is that money going?

just me.

Wouldnt Randjiesfontein be ideal?

Zoro,I don't know the full extent of Randjiesfontein, but if you can fit adequate no.of tracks(at least 2) each side of the "reversible "infrastructure in the middle, then yes.Parking would probably be best served, underground of the infrastructure, for convenience and security purposes, and also reducing surface area requirements.

Could have 4 track variants, with only one site!
